The 10 Most Powerful Characters Who Don’t Need God Ki

God Ki is the apex of power in Dragon Ball Super, and a massive game-changer that allowed Goku and Vegeta to surpass just about every character in DBZ once they learned how to use it. The longer Dragon Ball Super goes on, however, the less end-all, be-all God Ki feels. As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, several characters are God-Tier without an ounce of God Ki flowing through their bodies.

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, Black Frieza, and Ultra Instinct Goku

Dragon Ball Super: 6 God-Tier Forms With the Potential to Beat Black Frieza

The Z-Fighters now have incredible transformations that have the potential to grow even stronger by the Black Frieza Saga, and kill Frieza for good.

God Ki in Dragon Ball Super is basically a cheat code to get stronger, but it’s hardly necessary for the series’ most powerful mortals. Jiren didn’t need God Ki to keep up with Ultra Instinct Goku in the Tournament of Power, and both Broly and Gohan have higher Power Levels than their fellow Saiyans despite being 100% mortal.

Hit’s Time Skip is Just as Useful as God Ki

Hit Defeated Vegeta & Goku in the Tournament of Destroyers

Thousands of years old and a deadly assassin, Hit is Universe 6’s strongest unfused fighter. During the Tournament of Destroyers, Hit easily defeated Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and forced Goku to use Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken just to keep up with him. Even then, Hit had to hold back and couldn’t use his full abilities since he wasn’t allowed to kill during a tournament.

Hit’s Time Skip allows him to literally skip forward in time, giving him a massive edge over any opponent. While fighting Goku, Hit’s Time Skip starts to adapt to his opponent’s overwhelming Power Level, growing stronger over the course of battle. The fact Hit can manipulate time without any God Ki whatsoever makes him one of the most dangerous men in the multiverse.

Kefla Didn’t Need God Ki to Force Goku Back Into Ultra Instinct

Almost Defeated Goku in the Dragon Ball Super Anime

Kefla vs Ultra Instinct Goku

The fusion of Caulifla and Kale using the Potara earrings in the Tournament of Power, Kefla is one of the most powerful Saiyans in the multiverse. Kefla is also a Legendary Super Saiyan, and the only canon character in the series capable of using the Legendary Super Saiyan 2 transformation. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Kefla is strong enough to force Goku to trigger Ultra Instinct Sign just to stay in the fight.

LSSJ2 Kefla and Ultra Instinct Sign Goku are evenly matched, despite Goku needing God Ki to maintain his transformation. Kefla has no God Ki whatsoever, simply using her natural talent and the synergy that comes from Caulifla & Kale fusing together (much like the boost Goku and Vegeta get from fusing into Gogeta or Vegito). The Dragon Ball Super manga unfortunately makes Kefla slightly weaker, however, putting her in the same ballpark as Ultimate Gohan.

Jiren is Already Overpowered As Is

Jiren Beat Ultra Instinct Out of Goku

dragon-ball-super-goku-versus-jiren

Jiren has no God Ki, no fancy transformations, and no gimmicky techniques – he is merely the personification of raw power. Had he been a team player and taken things more seriously, Jiren could have realistically soloed the Tournament of Power and given Universe 11 an easy victory. Instead, he sits out most of the battle and is ultimately the reason his universe loses. Albeit not without giving Universe 7 one hell of a fight.

Even though Goku unlocks both Ultra Instinct Sign and regular Ultra Instinct, Jiren proves to be an immense threat. He’s even stronger than his universe’s God of Destruction, Belmod, and God of Destruction Candidate, Toppo. Goku leaves the Tournament of Power still believing that Jiren is stronger than him, and while he’s since been surpassed, a little bit of training could bring Jiren to Broly’s level in no time.

9 Dragon Ball Characters With The Most Unearned Power Ups

By the end of Dragon Ball Z and throughout almost all of Dragon Ball Super, characters are growing stronger through power-ups that defy all logic.

Granolah Became the Strongest Warrior in Universe 7 By Using the Dragon Balls

Granolah Has Won Almost All His Fights in Dragon Ball Super

granolah-2-eyes

By making a wish on the Cerealian Dragon Balls, Granolah exchanges most of his life in order to become the strongest fighter in Universe 11. Granolah physically ages up as a result, but also gains access to techniques he shouldn’t naturally know (like the Hakai) and evolves his eyesight to give him even deadlier accuracy, allowing him to effortlessly target vitals from afar.

Granolah comes very close to killing both Goku and Vegeta during his battles with them, in large part thanks to his massive power boost. At full power, Granolah is even stronger than Ultra Ego Vegeta. Unfortunately (or fortunately for his own lifespan), Granolah’s wish on the Dragon Balls did not take into consideration other fighters growing stronger than him after the fact, so he can still be surpassed. That said, Granolah remains one of the most powerful warriors in the multiverse, even without any God Ki to his name.

Gas’ Wish Was Even More Broken Than Granolah’s

Gas Defeated Ultra Ego Vegeta

Gas

After Granolah becomes the strongest warrior in the universe thanks to the Dragon Balls, Elec steals the idea for himself, gathers the Cerealian Dragon Balls, and wishes for Elec to be the most powerful warrior in Universe 7 instead. Unlike Granolah, Gas’ wish takes getting surpassed into consideration. Anytime someone grows stronger than Gas, the wish kicks him and ages Gas up so that he can tap into the full power of the Heeter clan.

Unfortunately for Gas, by the end of the Granolah the Survivor Saga, he’s essentially a husk of a man and literally crumbles to death when Black Frieza arrives and kills him. Before Frieza’s arrival, however, Gas grew strong enough to defeat Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah all at the same time. Had Frieza not shown up when he did, it’s likely Gas would have just kept growing stronger and killed the trio – or died from old age trying.

Orange Piccolo is Finally Reaching His Full Potential

Orange Piccolo is One of the Five Strongest Main Characters in Dragon Ball Super

Why Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Needs Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo at Launch

Orange Piccolo is the result of Shenron bringing out Piccolo’s latent potential, and finally giving him the edge he needs to catch up with Dragon Ball Super’s out-of-control power scaling. Akira Toriyama created Orange Piccolo specifically so Piccolo could once again rival both Goku and Vegeta. Unlike Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, however, Orange Piccolo is not a God form.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Orange Piccolo is powerful enough to fight Cell Max (albeit not strong enough to actually beat him). Orange Piccolo is also outclassed by Gohan Beast before the end of the movie, but this doesn’t change the fact that Piccolo is now one of the strongest characters in the series and firmly God-Tier in terms of Power Level.

Cell Max Would Have Been Unstoppable If He Became Perfect

Cell Max Nearly Killed Orange Piccolo

Dragon Ball Super Cell Max

Based on Dr. Gero’s schematics and fully designed by Dr. Hedo, Cell Max is the ultimate Android – or he would have been, had he actually been completed. Cell Max is technically incomplete when he’s released, but this is for the best, as even in his Semi-Perfect state, Cell Max could have destroyed the Earth and posed a serious threat to Orange Piccolo. At full power, it’s unlikely even Goku and Vegeta could have stopped Cell Max themselves.

Despite being the strongest Z-Fighter at the time, Gohan Beast needed Orange Piccolo’s help to overpower Cell Max, since their Ki attacks were roughly equal to each other. The fact Dr. Hero was able to build an Android that surpasses literal Gods is far more impressive than Dr. Gero building Androids capable of killing Super Saiyans back in DBZ. Perfect Cell Max would have needed Beerus’ interference to stop.

The strongest Legendary Super Saiyans can overwhelm Dragon Ball’s greatest fighters with ease, making them extremely dangerous in life or death duels.

Broly Was Already a Beast in His Base Form

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Beat Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza

SSJ Broly

All the main Saiyans are anomalies in terms of Power Level and implied to be mutants, but Broly is on another level entirely. Broly was born with a Power Level of 10,000 and with no formal training whatsoever, was already strong enough to defeat Goku and Vegeta’s non-God forms in his base state. After unlocking Super Saiyan, Broly was even stronger than Goku and Vegeta’s God forms.

Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan transformation scales him up to around Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta’s level, which is downright crazy. Broly’s Legendary Super is a mortal who can not only keep up with a fused fighter, but one who has a synergy boost and one of the most powerful God forms in existence. Broly has no need for God Ki when he’s already one of the most broken characters in Dragon Ball history.

Gohan Surpassed Goku & Vegeta Without Needing God Ki

Gohan Beast Defeated Cell Max and Ultra Instinct Goku

Gohan Beast is the second-strongest transformation in Dragon Ball Super and one of the largest power ups in the franchise’s history. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan goes from Tournament of Power tier to stronger than both Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. Although he needed Orange Piccolo’s help, Gohan Beast was the only character strong enough to actually defeat Cell Max.

The Beast form requires no God Ki whatsoever, and is simply the end result of Gohan manifesting all his inner power and potential. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Gohan Beast not only knocks Goku out of Perfected Ultra Instinct, but fights Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta, Super Saiyan Broly, Super Saiyan Goten, and Super Saiyan Trunks in a battle royale he’s implied to have won.

Black Frieza is Already a Threat to the Gods

Black Frieza Killed Gas, and Beat Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta

picture: black frieza in illustration shown at jump festa 2025.

Frieza is the most powerful mortal in Universe 7, and more than likely the entire multiverse. It took Frieza four months to go from weaker than Super Saiyan Goku on Namek to stronger than both Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F. After training for ten years in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber in another universe, Frieza unlocks his Black Frieza form, making him the deadliest warrior in the multiverse.

Considering Black Frieza was able to kill Awakened Gas in one hit, and effortlessly defeat both True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta at the same time, it’s not out of the question that Black Frieza might be stronger thanks the Gods of Destruction. The Z-Fighters are going to need some serious power ups if they’re going to stand a chance against Black Frieza once the Dragon Ball Super manga returns.
