Adaptations are often a big part of every shonen anime franchise, though no one can claim to put as much emphasis on them. Dragon Ball. Since the beginning of the series, almost every single one of the main characters has undergone a massive power-up to increase their power several times over.
However, despite the surprising and iconic changes Dragon Ball Introduced over the years, there are some that are just plain bad, whether it's through function, design, or their performance. In this article, let's go over these changes and why they are so despised by fans.
Dragon Ball Super: Each villain's strongest attack, ranked
The villains introduced in Dragon Ball Super were incredibly strong, and all have incredibly powerful attacks.
Ultimate Gohan should be pretty cool
Debut Arc: Buu Saga
As a very controversial choice, Ultimate Gohan is one of the most beloved forms in the entire series, especially due to the fact that Gohan was the strongest Z-Fighter when he first transformed in the Buu Saga. His strength while in this state put him above Super Buu and Super Saiyan 3 Goku.
However, functionally, there is nothing inherently unique about Ultimate Gohan, which disappointed some fans because the method of gaining this power was different from regular Super Saiyan forms. While the form's track record is decent, as evidenced by the Tournament of Power and Superhero arcs, it was ultimately just a decent adaptation that left a lot to be desired.
Toppo's god form should be strong
Debut Arc: Tournament of Power
When he was first introduced in the series, Toppo was an exceptionally powerful warrior from Universe 11 who was on par with Super Saiyan Blue Goku. Eventually, at the Tournament of Power, he decided to become the next God of Destruction for his home universe, which unlocked his destructive form.
Although this form was great from a design perspective and was actually quite strong, it was eventually defeated by Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolved state, which was quite a shock to watch as the Gods of Destruction are generally considered the strongest beings in the multiverse after the Angels.

Super Saiyan Blue Felt Way To Same
Debut Arc: Resurrection F
when Dragon Ball Super Beginning, fans knew that the series was going to introduce new changes, as it was par for the course. The first of these was the Super Saiyan God, which became a beloved transformation due to its unique design that shrinks the user's muscles and gives them a fiery red aura.
However, just one arc after its introduction, Super Saiyan God was essentially forgotten with the introduction of Super Saiyan Blue. This form felt more formulaic than the previous one, especially because it only added blue color on top of the regular Super Saiyan form instead of a unique design. It's especially because of Super Saiyan Blue that complaints of 'form fatigue' have now become a part of the series.
Super Saiyan Rage came out of nowhere
Debut Arc: Goku Black Arc
The Goku Black arc was pretty cool in terms of transformation, especially because it introduced one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise with Super Saiyan Rose. However, it also introduced a Super Saiyan Rage form for Trunks, which is said to be one of the worst in the series.
This is mostly because this transformation seems to have come out of nowhere and somehow made Trunks and his sword strong enough to destroy Jamsu's invulnerable outer body. The fact that Trunks of all people could be so strong out of nowhere rubbed the most the wrong way, and made many think it was lazy storytelling because of how easily he was able to destroy Zamasu.
Dragon Ball: These characters need to be made canon
Some of the best characters in the Dragon Ball franchise are non-canon, so let's see who are the best people to make canon.
False Super Saiyan was never revisited
Debut arc: The Lord Slug film
The Lord Slug movie was quite interesting, especially considering the major changes it introduced in the series. While the Lord Slug film, most of the time Dragon Ball Z Movies, existing outside of canon, False Super Saiyan is still an interesting adaptation to watch, given how the form, as a concept, was never brought up again.
Essentially, this form exists in a strange middle ground between Goku's regular state and his Super Saiyan form. It brings an aura and makes his hair stand on end, but it never actually transforms into an actual Super Saiyan, so it exists in a very strange place. All in all, it's a pretty useless concept, which is probably why it was never really seen again in any capacity.
Super Saiyan Grade 3 was just useless
Debut Arc: Cell Saga
All things considered, all the changes listed here are useful in some capacity. However, the Super Saiyan Grade 3 state that Trunks unlocked to fight the threat of Cell has to be the worst of them all, especially since it is a hindrance to the user.
Of course, its sheer strength and destructive power cannot be denied, as the user has increased muscle mass and their attacks hit like a truck. However, in doing so, users are astronomically slow, and they tire very easily, making Super Saiyan Grade 3 more of a stamina sink than a realistically viable transformation, as was also proven by Perfect Cell.
