The best multiplayer games that don't have combat

Multiplayer gaming is usually dominated by combat-heavy games. Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Halo, for example, all revolve around you shooting people to death. It's pretty wild fun, but killing is not a necessary condition for a chaotic game. Chaos can appear in games without any combat.

Things that require delicate teamwork or time management often lead to real-world arguments, at least when the right (or wrong) group of friends get together. Here are some chaotic multiplayer games that don't involve any sort of combat.

bound together

Tied together: A climber hanging by a chain from below.

Chained Together is a perfect title for this cooperative game, where each player is linked by a chain. Together, you have to climb up from the depths of hell to reach the top or at least get as high as you can. Progression often involves running and jumping on different platforms.

In these moments, you need to be in sync with the people you are chained to; Otherwise, you are all going to fall. So, you're dependent on your partners, which means that playing this game often involves sabotage and recriminations. And things regularly devolve into yelling at each other.

Keep talking and no one will explode

Bombs on talking and no one explodes.

In Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, you're trying to defuse a bomb with a friend. One of you has a bomb with several modules, each serving as a small puzzle. How to solve each one is covered in the manual that the other player has in real life.

A player with a bum needs to clearly explain the modules they are looking at, while a manual person needs to clearly explain how to solve a module. It usually starts out calm, but once the timer starts ticking down, panic can set in, and things can get a little chaotic.

Moving out 2

Moving Out 2 puts you in the boots of a group of movers. Just like in real life, movers take items out of homes and load them onto trucks, ready to take them to their new homes. Unlike in real life, the physics of this game are really weird, and there are surprising hazards that can stop your progress.

Also, there is a very strict time limit. This means you must work efficiently and display strong unity. Alternatively, you may panic and start throwing things around, hoping to get them to the truck faster. If you opt for this method, things can quickly get out of control.

Content warning

In a world full of content creators and influencers, views are everything, and that's what you're looking for at Content Alert. This is a multiplayer game in which you have to descend into a dark underground area with your camera. Once down there, you need to film as many scary monsters as possible without dying.

Take that footage back to the surface, upload it, and rake in the views. This is easier said than done. Running around and trying to film monsters as they try to kill you and your friends can be difficult. This often leads to chaos.

fall boys

Fall Guys is like an online game show where you compete in all kinds of events, hoping not to be one of the people eliminated. These competitions vary; Some have you racing through assault-like courses, trying to get to the finish quickly to qualify, while others have you dodging obstacles as you try to stay on the platform.

Those are just a few of the different types of events in the game. Most of them revolve around a large group of people trying to survive, so things can get out of hand.

The ultimate chicken horse

A raccoon stares at the Ultimate Chicken Horse as a chicken jumps on a conveyor belt.

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a competitive multiplayer platformer where the goal of each round is to get out. If all the players make it to the end, you can rejoice… but it means nothing. At least one person must fail to get points.

This is where the various blocks and traps you can place come into play, because you're actually trying to make it hard enough for all of your opponents to fail, but you can succeed. A chance to place new items comes at the end of each round, so the screen gets covered in more and more items as you play. Also, first place gets more points, meaning moving quickly is the recommended strategy, and this only adds to the level of chaos.

Octodad: Deadliest Catch

Octodad Catching some things in Octodad: Dadliest Catch.

In Octodad, you control an octopus that is pretending to be a human. Since he is not used to walking on two legs, it is difficult to control his body. But you have to put together enough to complete the various objectives you're given without exposing the fact that you're a sea creature with eight tentacles.

In single-player, it's pretty chaotic, but things get even wilder when you play the game cooperatively, as you all control different groups of tentacles. Working in a coordinated manner is a difficult task.

WarioWare: Move it!

WarioWare: Move it! is a party game in which all players play fast-paced minigames. Each minigame only lasts a few seconds, meaning you have very little time to think. Therefore, failure can result even if you act quickly.

Adding to the chaos is the fact that each minigame is played using the Nintendo Switch's motion controls. This means you have to move your body around as you try hard to complete the minigame in the required time.

Phasmaphobia

Willow Street House in Phasmophobia.

Nothing raises your stress level and makes you panic quite like a very scary game. The multiplayer that fits the bill is Phasmaphobia. This is a horror title where you enter a haunted area, trying to figure out which ghost is there but not trying to kill it.

There is no turning back. You just need to do your research and avoid the extraordinary creatures. When a ghost finds you, or feels like you're near, panic can set in. At least you have some friends by your side that you can talk to, but they are also in danger. Hearing their screams through the walkie-talkie can make you panic even more… or laugh, depending on what kind of bond you share.

over cooked

You and your friends run the kitchen in Overcooked. This means you have to prepare the food, cook it, start everything and take it to the counter. It all sounds very peaceful and comfortable. There is nothing peaceful about it though.

You only have a certain amount of time to place each order, and the more orders you place in the overall time frame, the better score you get. The pressure of this time can send people running around, trying to get things ready as quickly as possible. In a pandemic, mistakes can be made, and people can get angry. It's the most stressful fun you'll ever have.
