PlayStation 5 Users are surprised by the new quality-of-life features added to the console, which coincides with Sony's official annual wrap-up statistics. While the PlayStation 5 has received many new features since its release, they haven't exactly been a regular part of every system update. Sony is famous for adding or removing features after careful consideration, which may explain why many fans are surprised to see a brand-new feature pop up out of nowhere on their console.
Right now, the hottest topic within the PlayStation community is Sony's decision to phase out discs in 2028. A large part of the user base does not want to accept this decision and is trying to convince Sony to reverse it. The reason some players haven't noticed the PS5's new feature yet is that most people are focused on the future of physical media in the online gaming industry, leaving little room to discuss things like the new QoL features.
PlayStation 5 gets weekly wrap-ups
Normally, PlayStation users have to wait for Sony's official annual wrap-up feature to go live to see their most played games, how many trophies they've earned, and their total playtime. However, the PS5's new weekly wrap-up feature makes that wait unnecessary. The new QoL widget always resides in the welcome hub and shows the most important details about the user's data on a weekly basis: new trophies, total playtime, and most played game.

It also appears that Sony is rolling it out as an over-the-air (OTA) update rather than including it in a system update. Many fans have noticed it appearing out of nowhere in their Welcome Hub, while some claim it's been available for a while. It also indicates that the Japanese company may be adding it region-wise or testing it on specific consoles before officially introducing it. Regardless, some PS5 users can now view their weekly gaming stats without relying on third-party tools or Sony's official wrap-up website, which should be a positive change overall.
The Weekly Wrap-Up widget isn't the only new feature added to the PS5's Welcome Hub in recent months. Back in May 2026, some fans got to test the PS5's experimental player-count performance, which appears to have been inspired by Valve's Steam chart page. It features trending games and titles with the highest player counts, making it the first among other major video game consoles.
If fan reactions on social media are anything to go by, many PS5 users seem happy with the new weekly wrap-up feature, while those who aren't seem excited about its addition. That said, those who are actively fighting against PlayStation's no-disc policy seem unimpressed by the new widget, to say the least. They believe that Sony may be trying to distract from its recent changes, while those who review the widget on its own merits think that it is still a good addition that can improve the gaming experience for PS5 users.
