Amazon restocked the PS5's detachable disc drive and it sold out in minutes.

Previous restocks at various retailers disappeared almost immediately due to demand.

Hopefully this means that disk drives will now be more readily available, or at least a little easier to find.
Both PlayStation and Xbox currently have digital-only consoles on the market, further suggesting that within the next generation or two, physical games may largely be a thing of the past. Something that could delay PlayStation's inevitable is how well its discrete disc drive is selling. It's back in stock on Amazon again, but this time, it looks like it's staying that way.
The PS5's detachable disc drive was originally released as an added extra for a digital-only slimmer version of the console due out in 2023. However, it wasn't until PlayStation confirmed that the PS5 Pro would only be available as a digital console. Drive became very popular. It's been almost immediately restocked after the Pro's reveal has sold out everywhere, but this recent restock is the first indicator that supply may finally be meeting demand.

had a disk drive Restocked on Amazon around 1:30pm EST And, as of this typing, still available. There's at least a very real chance the reason it's in stock after three hours is because they were restocked at midnight. However, previous restorations have sold out pretty quickly regardless of the time of day, so hopefully, at the very least, those of you who want them will read this before people wake up and they start selling out again.
The PS5's disc drive is back to stock and looks set to stay that way
Cue people reading this six hours from now and let me know it's gone again
Disc drive for PS5 Digital Edition consoles
Sony's Disc Drive is the best way to play physical disc collections on the latest PlayStation consoles. The accessory is attached to the side of the PS5 Slim Digital and PS5 Pro consoles. Once installed, buyers can also watch 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD media. Owners need an Internet connection to connect the drive to the console.
One of the reasons disk drives are so hard to come by is that scalpers buy the stock whenever it becomes available. Listings selling the drives for inflated prices started popping up shortly after the Pro was revealed, and they've been hard to find ever since. Scalpers are certainly not deterred by the time of day stocks are made available, although the 1 am drop out may be partly an effort to prevent disk drives going to scalpers.
On the bright side, scalpers have probably been making a killing on disc drives, taking a big hit on PS5 Pros. Scalpers bought Pro stock in hopes of selling it for more, assuming they would sell like the base version of the console. The problem is, the Pro is not sold anywhere and is readily available. This has forced some scalpers to sell the new, more powerful version of the PS5 at a loss.
