Goku and Vegeta share what is perhaps the greatest rivalry in anime history. Since its inception Dragon Ball ZThe two Saiyans are inspiring each other to become stronger and push their limits. in between Dragon Ball ZBoth versions Dragon Ball Superand also Dragon Ball OnlineGoku and Vegeta have fought many times.

Interestingly, even though Goku is often much stronger than Vegeta, Vegeta wins a surprising number of their fights. Many of the battles between the two are also left entirely to interpretation as to who won, especially at the end of their final battle. Dragon Ball timeline.

Goku vs Vegeta in Saiyan Saga

Winner: Vegetables

Goku and Vegeta's first fight is the greatest battle in the Saiyan Saga Dragon Ball history Akira Toriyama was in rare form, a thrilling exhibition full of twists and turns. Goku has to pump Kaiokane to his absolute limits just to keep up with Vegeta, and Vegeta's durability is far superior to any other villain at this point in the series. Vegeta vs Ginyu-Goku in Namek

Goku has the misfortune of having his body stolen by Captain Ginyu after he lands on Namek. Ginyu's shapeshifting ability allows him to swap bodies with anyone he wants, a practice he has used many times in his career to steal stronger bodies. Unfortunately for Ginyu, he has no idea how to use Goku's powers, especially the Kaiokane. This leaves Ginyu-Goku with a pitiful power level of 23,000.

Ginyu-Goku is so weak that both Krillin and Gohan are able to keep pace with him. Vegeta completely destroys Ginyu-Goku as they fight, worried that Vegeta will kill Ginyu before Goku can get his body back. Fortunately for Goku, Ginyu tries to use the transformation technique on Vegeta, which Goku leaps forward to get his body back. That said, this is only after Vegeta defeats Ginyu-Goku in near-death.

Super Saiyan 2 Goku vs Majin Vegeta's Rematch

Winner: Tied (Technically Vegetable)

The Majin Buu Saga sets up a rematch between Goku and Vegeta that goes horribly wrong. The two were originally supposed to fight in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, but when the tournament is interrupted by Babidi, Vegeta becomes increasingly impatient and completely loses his cool when he learns that Goku has unlocked Super Saiyan 2 in the afterlife and surpassed him. To bridge the gap, Vegeta allows Babidi to use his Warlock magic, turning him into a Majin.

Super Saiyan 2 Goku and Super Saiyan 2 Majin Vegeta are equal in power level, and their fierce battle gives enough energy to wake up Majin Buu prematurely. Goku manages to talk Vegeta into his senses, which ends the fight in a tie. Taking responsibility for Majin Buu's awakening, however, Vegeta knocks Goku out when he is off guard and flies off to sacrifice his life against Buu. Vegeta technically wins the battle with this in mind, but it's hard to call it a true victory after Goku puts up a fight.

On Namek, Vegeta only defeated Ginyu-Goku, who was unable to use Goku's full power. During the Majin Buu Saga, Majin Vegeta defeats Goku with a cheap shot when their fight was already over.

Goku and Vegeta almost certainly killed each other in their final battle – not out of malice or hatred towards each other, but to fully test their abilities and powers once and for all. Dragon Ball Fans will never know if Goku or Vegeta won their final duel.
