5 new heroes have been added Overwatch Reign of the Talon Season 1 is some of the best new content the game has seen in a long time, and I fully embraced the game after taking a break for a few months. As much as I love directing Overwatch Since “2” dropped and debuted its new UI, overhauled the stadium mode, and introduced a cascade of new heroes, one of these characters has become a headache for me to play against. At this point, I'll essentially vote to ban them every time I get the chance, because I think they're too powerful to be worth the hassle of playing against them right now.
How I appreciate the new batch Overwatch The heroes released with the relaunched Season 1 are trying to do something different and unique with their kits. Enran having the ability to build up burn damage on enemies is a useful feature for a DPS hero, and of course, Jetpack Cat's Lifeline ability opens the door for all kinds of crazy strategies to be implemented. However, I think Domina has a lot going for her that makes her pretty strong at the moment, and it reminds me a lot of how broken Sigma was when she was first added. Overwatch Back in 2019.
PSA: If you just got back into Overwatch, don't sleep on this feature
Any Overwatch player jumping back into the game for the first time in a while to check out Talon's reign won't want to miss out on an important feature.
Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1 banned Domina every chance I got
Unlike many players, I was lucky enough to try out Domina early at a hands-on preview event for the media held at Blizzard's Irvine campus. Even during this preview playtest, I could tell that Domina was going to be a huge threat in the meta when it was released. Unfortunately, my suspicions were right, and now that Domina has been officially released OverwatchI've had a lot of time to experience playing as and against him, and I'm realizing just how strong his kit really is.
Who is that character?

Domina's abilities in Overwatch
- Photon Magnum (Primal Fire): A medium-range beam that ends in a high-impact shot.
- Barrier array: A segmented hard-light barrier deployed in front of Domina. Each section must be destroyed individually, creating dynamic defensive angles.
- Crystal Charge: Project an explosive crystal and reactivate it to explode.
- Sonic Repulsors: Push enemies back, stun them if they hit a wall.
- The ultimate – Panopticon: Fires a hard-light projectile that captures enemies and explodes upon expiration.
- Passive – rebuild: Shields are restored when dealing damage with abilities.
As a poke tank, Domina excels at planting herself behind her barrier array and damaging enemies from afar with her Photon Magnum. In general, I've found that Domina struggles to fight off attackers that get close to her, with her Sonic Repulsors being the only real way to separate from enemies. When I face an enemy Domina, I try to play a nearby hero, like Reinhart if I'm a tank, or Enran if I'm a DPS. However, even with this strategy in mind, I find that I still struggle to take down enemy Domina, which leads to my primary criticism of Domina's current state.
Why is it so frustrating to deal with a domina?
Anyone who has played as or against Domina Overwatch Probably knows she can be a tough target to take down. Between her barrier array and rebuilding passive skills, Domina has the defensive abilities to avoid the onslaught of unprepared players. The barrier array is large and wraps around Domina in a half circle, making it difficult to break through, despite the ability to destroy parts of the shield individually. Regeneration is even more of an issue, as Domina can continuously restore her shield as long as she is dealing damage.
The issue is further complicated by the fact that Domina's Photon Magnum is particularly deadly. It has a long range and deals constant damage, culminating in bursts of increased damage that make it harder for squishier heroes to survive. So Domina's combat loop revolves around picking off vulnerable enemies with her Photon Magnum while restoring her own shields, essentially allowing her to avoid a lot of damage from a solid healing enemy like Mercy or Baptiste, while her Barrier Array stands in as an extra wall players need to deal damage to her. I can't count how many times I almost finished Domina before she got back to her back lane, and I got killed by the enemy DPS because I took too long to kill her.
No, Overwatch's Season 1 heroes didn't copy Marvel Rivals, but they did copy this game
Some of Overwatch's new heroes have come under fire for “copying” Marvel rivals, which doesn't hold up, though feels out of a different game.
How Domina should be reworked to be more balanced
While I still want Domina to retain most of her abilities and overall identity as a poke tank. OverwatchI think some of these skills need a major nerf. A reduction in the damage done by his Photon Magnum over time, potentially dropping from 60 to 50, would be a good start. I'd also like to see his overall shield lowered to compensate for the fact that rebuilding can take damage. The reduction from 400 to 350 shields will help Domina feel more proportionally defensive compared to her offensive abilities.
Even after her recent nerf, Domina is still overpowered
In the February 13 hotfix for OverwatchDomina received a small nerf that reduced the health of her barrier array panels, making it easier to destroy individual pieces of her barrier. While this definitely helps reduce Domina's survivability, I still think it doesn't do enough to make up for how much damage she can take while restoring her own shield. until Overwatch Domina's total shield and photon magnum damage reduction updates will be released, she will remain my number one ban priority.
