Togashi has done some amazing things in the present Hunter x Hunter arc, succession contest. This arc has already seen some incredible twists and turns that fans didn't expect, one of which is probably the death of the main character, Hisoka.

As things stand, Hisoka is being hunted by a group of ghosts, and Crowley is ready to sacrifice his life to take him down. Hisoka's story may come to a conclusion before the end of this arc.

Hisoka is definitely one of the most popular characters Hunter x Hunter. He made his first appearance during the first arc of the story, when the Hunter Trials were underway, and since then, he has been involved in the vast majority of the story. Many people consider Hisoka as the main character of HxH along with Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio. That is due to following the same birthday pattern as the main characters.

Hisoka was a part of the Phantom Troupe for a while, and took on the role of the troupe's number 4. However, he was not a loyal member and really only wanted one thing – a fight with the group's leader, Chrollo Lucifer. However, their fight was pushed back several times due to various circumstances.

Hisoka is shown to be the strongest character in the series. When it comes to Nen, he is a transmuter. Hisoka uses two Nen abilities: Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise, the first being a Transmuter ability and the second being Conjuration. Bungee Gum allows him to transform his aura into an elastic and sticky gum-like substance. While this sounds like an underrated ability, Hisoka is such a skilled fighter that this ability is overpowered by him. Texture wonder, on the other hand, is used to change the texture or appearance of something. This makes Hisoka a very versatile and interesting character to watch in battle, as was evident in his fight against Castro during the Heavens Arena arc.

Hisoka loves a good fight and gets excited by it. He looks for strong people to fight because he enjoys it. His biggest target for that is Chrollo. Hisoka, however, isn't particularly interested in fighting groups, and isn't even interested in fighting non-humans, including powerful characters like chimera ants.

Hisoka lives for the thrill of battle. Perhaps the most anticipated battle in all of Hunter x Hunter was Hisoka vs. Chrollo. This is certainly partly due to how long it was built. Hisoka first tried to fight Crowlo during the New York City arc, but due to Kurapika's actions, Crowlo's nen was sealed away, and he was unable to fight.

Hisoka wanted to fight Chrollo when he regained his powers, following the events of Greed Island, but Chrollo was able to stay away for the time being.

Finally, at the current running time HxH arc, the Succession Tournament arc, Hisoka was finally able to go head-to-head with Crowley. The latter, however, had a huge advantage over Hisoka, as he had time to prepare for this battle, while Hisoka went into the battle with no real plan or any new abilities.

For this battle, Chrollo received some new Nen abilities, two of which were from members of his own Phantom faction, Shalnark and Kortopi. This fight, as many fans know, ended in Hisoka's death, although he fought well. Before dying, however, he ordered Bungee Gum to pump his heart and lungs again after death, which worked perfectly. Hisoka, after his fight with Crowlo, is resurrected, and he wastes no time in doing some drastic actions.

Hisoka killed two phantom group members, Shalnark and Kortopi, causing Chrollo to lose access to their abilities. He could have killed Machi as well, but decided to spare him for the time being. He has a newfound bloodlust for the phantom group, and wants to kill every single one of them. The Phantom Troop is also after him for revenge.

Hisoka, as well as the Phantom Troop, are currently all on the Black Whale. Losing someone's life is only a matter of time. Bonolenov, one of the spiders, has located Hisoka and is on his tracks, and may be the next to die for sure. All of the spiders are currently after Hisoka, and Crowley wants to kill him before they reach him.

Chrollo, meanwhile, is in hiding. He plans to steal the Kaqin Empire's three national treasures: the Seed Urn, the Zen Buddha, and the Divine Aspect Blade. If Chrollo can steal these, his Nen ability, “Skill Hunter,” will reach a new level and allow him to steal a rare and powerful Nen ability. What this ability is, is currently unknown, but it could be something fans have already seen in the manga, or something new that has yet to be revealed. With this ability, Crowlo seems confident that he can kill Hisoka for good.

This also indicates that Hisoka is now probably almost immortal. Hisoka can, theoretically, pump his heart and lungs with bungee gum as many times as he wants, so it may not be possible to kill him normally. Chrollo is willing to die to take down Hisoka, and that kind of faith is definitely taken seriously. The Succession Contest arc could see a rematch between Hisoka and Chrollo, and this time, the outcome could end in the death of both.

There is also a chance that Chrollo's plan will fail, and Hisoka will overcome this new challenge and eliminate the entire Phantom Troupe, so that will be seen in the future. The death of two major characters will surely come as a shock to the fans. Hisoka doesn't have much to do with the Dark Continent either, as he doesn't want to fight non-humans. He could only be interested if a powerful man had been there.
