Top 13 Demon Weapons in Soul Eater Anime and Manga (Ranked)

The mismatch between the Soul Eater manga and the anime is one of the many inconsistencies that put Soul Eater among the top extraordinary manga with inferior anime adaptations. When it comes to Excalibur, it is hands down the most legendary Demon Weapon of all weapons to ever exist on and off the screen. He simply knows no other Demon Weapon that could defeat him, and even Death Scythes bow at his might. Excalibur would happily remind us of this very fact indeed.

Some Demon Weapons have it in them to not only show why Soul Eater is among the top anime alternatives to Demon Slayer but also rattle the Great Old One’s seat at the top spot. As we rank them, let’s see how close each of these contenders can get to taking on the special mantle of the top Demon Weapon.

Soul Eater is a thrilling supernatural-action anime series with a diverse cast. Here’s each main character’s age, height, and birthday.

Dengu Dinga

The Rainbow Battleaxe

Soul Eater Dengu Dinga in Human and Weapon Form with Meister Alexandre Manga Chapter 94 Square Enix

There’s power in going back to basics, and what we have to keep in mind about Dengu Dinga’s weapon form is that it’s great as a basic one, even though it’s not particularly strong. Since this character is a Death Scythe, the general assumption is that he is a strong Demon Weapon, and yet it’s hard to tell at a glance. Sadly, the manga doesn’t explore Dengu Dinga’s abilities to a sufficient degree, and fans never get to see the full extent of his actual power.

In essence, his Demon Weapon form has him transform into a dull battleaxe that can reflect beams of light and lasers. It also allows Dengu Dinga to use rainbows as a means to cut things. These special abilities prove useful in one of the top story arcs in the Soul Eater manga – the War on the Moon – where the character eventually gets overwhelmed by enemy clowns. This puts the rank of the strongest Demon Weapon relatively far beyond Dengu Dinga’s reach.

Jinn Galland

The Magical Death Genie Lamp

Soul Eater Jinn Galland and His Tower Form with Meister Zubaidah Manga Chapter 94 Square Enix

Being a Death Scythe, Jinn Galland isn’t weak by any means, yet his relative strength among Death Scythes is up for debate. Just like Dengu Dinga, this character never makes it to the anime, which chooses to build an alternative story to the point of ranking at the top of anime that don’t make sense without the manga.

Admittedly, Jinn Galland’s weapon shape makes for one of the strangest in the manga. His weapon transformation has him take on the appearance of a magic genie lamp. When that lamp gets rubbed by his meister, it spews smoke, which allows his soul to take on different combat forms from then on.

Despite their strength, though, his forms are limited to just three: The Tower, The Djinn, and The Lovers. In a way, his weapon form is a weakness in and of itself too, as a lamp, he relies on his meister utilizing his smoke form abilities. While Jinn Galland’s potential seems to be of help in the War on the Moon arc of the manga, he doesn’t have much else going for him.

11

Tsar Pushka

The Anti-Demon Cannonball

Soul Eater Tsar Pushka Manga Chapter 82 Square Enix

Much like Jinn Galland, the only part that Tsar Pushka gets in one of the top shonen anime that are great for re-watching is just an honorable mention. While this character belongs to the ranks of weaker Death Scythes, his weapon form does pack a punch when it counts. His unique Anti-Demon Wavelength ability plays a pivotal role in the Mad Blood arc of the manga, and the character’s tactical mindset helps him and his meister project this special ability with the utmost efficiency.

What Tsar Pushka’s weapon form does is turn the character into a giant cannonball with the capacity to get ejected from his body. Another way in which Tsar Pushka makes use of his ability is by attaching himself to his partner’s limbs and then ejecting his weapon form. This tactic gives Crona a hard time in the Mad Blood arc, where Tsar Pushka deploys it in tandem with his partner Feodor’s martial arts expertise.

Sadly, that’s as far as the manga lets us in on Tsar Pushka’s strength. Getting defeated by Crona brings both the character’s and his partner’s demise. Although with Soul Eater being among the anime series with the most distorted storylines, the Mad Blood arc doesn’t even make it to the anime adaptation.

Elizabeth “Liz” Thompson and Patrcia “Patty” Thompson

The Fastest Gunslinger Sisters This Side of Brooklyn

Soul Eater Liz and Patty Thompson Human Form Manga Chapter 78 Square Enix

Even though they aren’t Death Scythes, these ladies are Death the Kid’s weapons of choice. Taking symmetry a lot more seriously than he probably should, their meister Death the Kid can definitely appreciate handling two identical Beretta M9 pistols at the same time. This is exactly what the Demon Weapon forms of Liz and Patty offer to one of the top dual-wielding practitioners in shonen anime and the second strongest meister by the end of the manga.

At first glance, their special abilities boil down to the good old “point and shoot” approach, yet these ladies share more sophistication than that. Besides their solid hand-to-hand combat skills and decent marksmanship, they get to tap into a massive power boost from their Shinigami meister and enjoy unlimited meister wavelength ammo to hit their targets with. The sisters can also utilize each other in the gun form.

Azusa Yumi

The Sniper Death Scythe With a Good Eye

Soul Eater Azusa Yumi Using Thousand Eye Ability Manga Chapter 27 Square Enix

Azusa is another gun-type Demon Weapon that brings her own brand of firepower. Taking on the cursed gun aesthetic of a crossbow and a sniper rifle bonded together forever, her weapon is a strong contender for the list of impressive but practically useless anime weapons in the real world. In the Soul Eater universe, however, Azusa’s marksmanship and other abilities are one scary sight, and that is something that Asura knows for a fact, having been shot multiple times by this character.

The special talents of Azusa span telesynchronization, pinpoint shooting, enhanced speed, and Thousand-Mile Eyes. With the help of her telesynchronization ability, Azusa can resonate with others for long-distance communication through devices like radios and phones. Her Thousand-Mile Eyes special ability makes Azusa even more dangerous, as it can be used in combination with the rest of her fighting potential, enhancing her firing accuracy, tracking skills, and analytical capacity.

Tezca Tlipoca

The Mirror Man Who Cheats Death

Soul Eater Tezca Tlipoca Manga Chapter 85 Square Enix

Tezca makes a strong impression of an odd fellow from start to finish. Beneath his animal mask, however, hides a powerful Death Scythe. Tezca’s mirror Demon Weapon form proves that even the most innocuous of items can be dangerous in the right hands, or rather monkey hands.

Having a monkey for a meister, Tezca demonstrates a variety of mirror-themed abilities, with the most notable one being his capacity to survive without a physical body. Had the character appeared in the anime adaptation, this special ability would have earned Soul Eater a spot among the top anime series where dying isn’t final. By manifesting as a Disembodied Living Soul inside his mirror form, Tezca gets to trick death itself.

In addition, Tezca can use his mirror-like weapon form to track people, reflect what causes a person’s guilt, and create illusions. These defense-oriented abilities have an offensive counterpart – Tezca’s Solar Ray ability that the character uses to severely maim Justin Law.

7

Justin Law

The Prodigious Executioner Who Loses Himself

Soul Eater Justin Law Fused with Clown in Guillotine Form Manga Chapter 94 Square Enix

In the anime series, Justin Law draws his power from his profound sense of order and his allegiance to the will of Lord Death. As one of the scarier Death Scythes, he manifests his weapon form as partial morphing into a guillotine that entraps those he is about to subject to an execution. Even though this Demon Weapon form is inherently limited due to its stationary position, Justin Law makes up for that with a variety of sharp traps.

Adding to the gap between the Soul Eater manga and anime, the manga version of Justin Law spirals into madness as the character’s taste for perfect order falls under Asura’s influence. With this dark change of heart, Justin Law’s weapon form in the manga explores an additional set of abilities. Among them are enhanced durability, chain blades, and a new executioner form achieved through Madness Fusion with a clown – all making him a dangerous obstacle in the final arcs of the manga.

6

Marie Mjolnir

The Living Embodiment of Mjolnir

Soul Eater Marie Mjolnir Manga Chapters 61 and 94 Square Enix

Entering the tougher steps on our ranking ladder is the Demon Weapon Marie Mjolnir. Just like the Norse god of thunder’s faithful tool, she is capable of what Mjolnir does best – pulverizing the opponent with her Demon Hammer form. Fans of Thor lore with a taste for animation and manga alike who see Thor among the top Marvel heroes lacking their own animation spotlight would find the manga’s version of Marie Mjolnir a curious character.

In the manga, Marie holds her own very well and looks more impressive than her anime appearance of a police baton. Not many can boast beating up the Death Scythe prodigy Justin Law, who takes a villainous turn in the manga, which Marie Mjolnir does with her partner Franken Stein’s contribution. Speaking of which, Marie has a healing wavelength to match her hammer fists of fury – it stalls Franken Stein’s madness from spiraling out of control.

5

Ragnarok

The Demon Sword Trying To Submerge the World in Black Blood

Adding to the presence of Norse mythology in anime series, Ragnarok proves to be a very powerful and somewhat perplexing Demon Weapon. Granted, being melted down into a pool of Black Blood and injected into a human isn’t exactly a typical experience for Demon Weapons to go through. Regardless of his lack of human form, Ragnarok remains a highly lethal demon sword, especially as he swims around within the body of his meister, or rather, his host, Crona.

It seems that being a liquidated blood sword for life does have its perks. The manga version of Ragnarok enjoys a steady expansion in his power and abilities as a shapeshifter with every soul he gets to eat. At one point, he acquires the ability to shapeshift into a dragon-like form, empowering Crona with the ability to fly. Sadly, the anime misses out on Ragnarok’s ability to evolve and become more dangerous through absorbing other entities.

Black Blood gives Ragnarok one more terrifying power – Scream Resonance – that can severely damage Demon Weapons, with Soul Eater Evans being one victim of Ragnarok’s own special migraine generator. In the manga, however, Ragnarok’s ability gets a more gruesome feel to it when it shifts into Triple Scream Resonance following the Black Clown Fusion – a moment that would have earned a spot among the creepiest clowns in anime had Soul Eater adapted it.

Soul “Eater” Evans

The Coolest Pianist To Become a Death Scythe

Soul Eater Soul Evans Partially Transformed into Keyboard Scythe Manga Chapter 113 Square Enix

The last Death Scythe to ever be made, and a formidable one, is Soul Evans himself. We only get to see this in the Soul Eater manga. What makes the manga version of Soul Evans a more dangerous Demon Weapon is the way in which his weapon form evolves into a sophisticated combat machine once he turns into a Death Scythe.

Blending his skills as a pianist with his weapon form’s newfound powers, Soul Evans manifests his unique Keyboard form that can both interfere with the soul wavelength of his adversaries and guard his friends. Following this transformation, which would have made it to the list of the most exciting shonen anime transformations if Soul’s manga journey had been fully adapted, Soul Evans acquires the power to be his own meister as well.

With that said, the deepest source of strength that Soul Evans can tap into is still his special bond with his meister Maka, which the manga portrays with greater emotional depth. While both Soul and Maka struggle with Madness, they can mutually mitigate it in a state of deep resonance. While Maka can shoo Soul’s Little Ogre away, Soul can use his ability to expand Maka’s soul perception.
