What is Turbo Granny's background and inspiration?
There is much more to a character than just being an antagonist
Although Turbo Granny initially appears as a yokai villain that Momo and Okarun must defeat, there is more to the character than meets the eye. Eventually, it is revealed why Turbo Granny decided to stay in the tunnel. Momo's grandmother reveals that the tunnel is where the young girls were taken against their will and killed by evil men. Immediately after these passes, Turbo Granny moved into the tunnel to bring peace to the souls before they moved on.
Many fans remember when Turbo Granny saved Momo in the first episode, pulling her out of a Serpoian UFO that was close to doing the same horrible things that happened to the girls in the tunnel. This further proves that Turbo Granny can be vulnerable when she can't protect young girls. Despite Turbo Granny's good intentions, however, she also attacks innocent people who enter the tunnel.
Meeting Turbo Granny in the tunnel
Momo and Okarun try to explore the spirit world
When Momo and Okarun meet for the first time punishment anime, they both want to prove that their interests exist. Momo believes in spirits, while Okarun believes in aliens. As they begin their journey together, they explore a tunnel where Turbo Granny apparently lives. Eventually, Okarun runs into a yokai spirit, and tries to escape, but fails due to Turbo Granny's extreme speed. He is then possessed by a spirit, and arrives to save Momo from Serpo aliens who want to kill him.
Although this initial encounter results in Okarun being captured by Turbo Granny, this is also when Momo is able to awaken his psychic powers against the Serpo aliens, allowing him and Okarun to work together with their abilities to stop their enemies. Turbo Granny was able to capture Okarun by stealing his “banana limbs”, however, which eventually led to a massive Turbo Granny arc to retrieve Okarun's belongings. Although Turbo Granny seems to hold a grudge against Okarun, she seems to have a soft spot for Momo because she protects him and is there when he awakens his powers.

Okarun's capture and new powers
Okarun gains the ability of Turbo Granny
Although Okarun's “banana limbs” are now missing, she has many of Turbo Granny's powers and abilities, allowing her to fight Momo. However, he must stop his curse to prevent it from spiraling out of control. When she is not around him, such as after defeating the Flatwoods Monster, Okarun begins to lose control of his Turbo Granny abilities, and at one point even tries to eat Momo before being stopped by Momo's grandmother.
While cursed, Okarun's abilities include increased speed and reflexes, and he is able to increase his strength and go all-out to charge enemies. He is able to withstand intense attacks and survive his own projectile abilities. When paired with Momo, who can block Okarun's curse and allow him to unleash his powers at will, the two are unstoppable against any enemy, including Turbo Granny, when the final battle comes.
Defeating Turbo Granny in a tag match
Tanting Turbo Granny is the best way to go
Turbo Granny is not without her weaknesses, and one of the easiest things to do to control a powerful yokai is to taunt her. Momo learns this from her grandmother, who suggests that she stop by taking her out of Shono City, where she is most powerful. This is due to the fact of being fused with a location-bound soul. These are souls that are attached to a specific place, and the minute they leave that place, they become very weak. So by luring these spirits outside Shono City, it makes it much easier for Momo and Okarun to defeat them.
As Momo's grandmother suggests, Momo and Okarun are able to easily force Turbo Granny out of her territory by challenging her to a game of tag. This is due to the fact that Turbo Granny is incredibly fast, and always follows the rules. Despite some initial mishaps, Momo and Okarun are able to lead her out of Shono City, and they watch her fall before them.
After his defeat, the two friends notice that the souls of the girls found in the tunnel are also released. Although Turbo Granny initially comforts them inside the tunnel, this likely means that they are now able to move on and no longer have to live as evil spirits. Soon after Turbo Granny is defeated, however, she returns as a possessed maneki-neko, eventually becoming a supporting character to the main characters. This is due to the fact that Turbo Granny always had good intentions to save young girls, and can now help Momo and Okarun take on other evil forces.
