Uniqlo reveals the second wave of retro Pokemon T-shirts

Uniqlo released a range of new Pokemon t-shirts sporting images from the original games to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their release earlier this year. Turns out it wasn't quite finished, as it was recently revealed that more designs will be available later this year.

Uniqlo's first wave of retro Pokemon t-shirts is now available. Among the Pokemon selected for those initial designs are Chaizard, Gengar, and the chonky Pikachu, all of which are drawn directly from artwork that has forever been associated with Red and Blue, originally Japan's red and green.

That theme continues for wave number two as, once again, the designs used for Uniqlo's new Pokemon merch are all pulled directly from the original games. The fashion brand has gone a bit darker with the designs this time around, though, literally, with most of the pixel art drawn from the 30-year-old Pokemon games in black and white, as it appeared on Nintendo's original Game Boy.

Designs from Uniqlo's discontinued Mario collections are back.

There are seven designs to choose from, three of which are exclusively available in adult sizes, and three are just for kids. The headliner of this upcoming drop is a t-shirt that uses artwork from Pokemon Red's welcome screen, which will be available in both adult and kids sizes.

Holding a red Poke Ball in a t-shirt, standing next to his Charmander. It also has the Pokemon logo above them, and “Red Edition” printed on the bottom. Joining it in the adult collection is a t-shirt featuring Mewtwo's original design, the other eight gym leaders' signature Pokemon, and best of all, a shirt with Pikachu in the pocket, hidden inside a tiny pixel art Raichu.

For the kids, along with the title screen tee, they have a big old Pikachu, an even bigger, very different-looking Gengar, and a fourth option that includes some Gen 1 icons like Magikarp, Snorlax, and Psyduck. The t-shirts won't be available to buy until July, but their pages are already live on Uniqlo's Japanese site.

Not only does this mean you can get a good look at them to decide which one you want to buy (it's a Pocket Pikachu/Hidden Raichu, right?), but you can also get an idea of how much they'll cost. 1,990 yen for adult size, and 990 yen for childrenThat equates to $13 and $6.50 respectively.

Although they are being advertised by Uniqlo Japan, the first wave of retro Pokemon shirts are already available worldwide, so while they may not be available in the US and UK in July, they should be released soon. The prices won't translate directly, but they'll still be cheaper than you might expect. Uniqlo Pokemon t-shirts are currently available in the US for $29.90 and $19.90, so I imagine these new designs will be priced the same.
