Details surrounding Lenovo's upcoming new trio Legion GO Handheld gaming PCs have been leaked recently. Lenovo is set to announce a new wave of Legion GO models at CES 2025, and leaked information indicates that these handhelds will be quite capable on the hardware front.
The Lenovo Legion GO was released in September 2023 as a companion to Valve's Steam Deck and Asus' ROG. Where previous handhelds sported a more traditional form factor, the Lenovo Legion GO contrasts with Nintendo Switch-esque detachable controllers and a relatively large 8.8-inch 144Hz QHD+ display. Lenovo has also equipped the Legion GO with AMD's powerful Z1 Extreme chipset to match the Asus ROG Ally on the performance front. As AMD prepares to announce its Z2 Extreme chipset, however, it looks like Lenovo has an updated lineup of Legion GO handhelds to go along with it.

The “Go” moniker suggests that this Ryzen Z2 version will be less powerful than the top-of-the-line Extreme variant, which is in line with the expected affordability of the Legion GO S. Leaked renders also show Legion GO. The S will ditch the current Legion GO's detachable joystick for a more traditional handheld form factor and a “Glacier White” colorway. The Lenovo Legion GO S is claimed to feature an 8-inch 1920×1200 120Hz LED display with up to 500 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB color accuracy. As far as the price point goes, the Lenovo Legion GO S is expected to cost around €600 (around $625).
Lenovo may offer the first third-party device with SteamOS support
Alongside the Legion GO S, Lenovo has also allegedly revealed the Legion GO S Steam Edition and the Legion GO 2. The latter is a direct successor to the current Lenovo Legion GO and will be equipped with an AMD Z2 Extreme chipset for maximum performance, along with an 8.8-inch 2560×1600 OLED display. Legion GO S Steam Edition is even more interesting, as the name suggests, it could be the first third-party device to ship with the Steam Deck's SteamOS operating system instead of Windows 11.
Valve has long been working on third-party device integration for SteamOS, and it looks like those efforts may finally come to fruition with the announcement of Lenovo's new Legion GO lineup at CES 2025 next month. It should also be interesting to see how the AMD Ryzen Z2 chips in MSI's recently launched Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ gaming handhelds stack up against the high-performance Intel Core Ultra 285V processor.
