Another big upgrade PlayStation 5 ProThe AI upscaling technology may be officially announced soon. Released in late 2024, the PS5 Probecame the most powerful console on the market. However, it struggled to gain traction with its base price of $699.99, featuring many enhancements to the technical capabilities of the base PS5 console.
PlayStation later released a revised PS5 Pro model with a price increase that brought the console down to $749.99. The original update focused on improving the console's power consumption and reducing its overall noise. He said the upgrades will specifically focus on improving the PS5 Pro's current upscaling technology and graphical capabilities.
The PS5 Pro is getting an upgrade in 2026
The PlayStation 5 Pro is already an incredibly powerful console, but gamers can expect it to get a major graphical boost in 2026.
PlayStation 5 Pro rumored to get PSSR 2.0 update
PSSR 2.0, otherwise known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, is now rumored to be released between January and March of this year. The report comes from Gust_FAN, a Twitter user known for sharing PlayStation leaks and deals, who tweeted several details about the dates and what the potential upgrade might include. Most notably, Gust_FAN has previously tweeted accurate leaks about the PS5 Slim design and the 2024 PS5 Pro technical presentation where the PS5 Pro model was announced.
The current update is said to boost frame rates for games previously stuck at 70-80 FPS, boost resolutions for classic games, and feature improved debugging tools for game developers. The term “classic games” is believed to refer to the PS4 library, which currently receives selected performance and visual improvements when played on the PS5 Pro. Additionally, the update will implement a new feature that will operate similarly to AMD's FSR4, which will greatly enhance image quality and overall performance. The Twitter post did not mention whether the rumored update will come with a PS5 Pro price increase.
If these rumors are true, PlayStation fans should hear an official announcement from Sony soon. The debate over whether the PS5 Pro is worth the upgrade remains prominent among the console's player base. This upgrade could still help sway skeptics around, especially if PSSR 2.0 is as effective as AMD's FSR4. This will help bridge the performance gap between the current PS5 Pro model and modern PCs with increased upscaling capabilities.
Current consoles allow players to target 4K resolution with 60 FPS or opt in for advanced ray-tracing with faster load times. Even with these enhancements, industry analysts have confirmed that the PS5 Pro is lagging behind the PS4 Pro's sales numbers. To help improve sales of the enhanced console, PlayStation may be keen to combine PS5 Pro upgrades with its new exclusives. Saroswhich releases in April. Housemark has gone on record to confirm that its upcoming title will take advantage of the current PS5 Pro model capabilities.
