in Pokemon FireRedVileplume can be obtained by evolving a gloom using the Leaf Stone. Oddish evolves into Gloom at level 21, which can then immediately evolve into Vileplume if you have a leaf stone, making it one of the oldest fully evolved grass-types you can gain access to in the game.
Vileplume is exclusive to the development line Pokemon FireRed and cannot be obtained in Pokemon Leaf Green except through trade. Its counterpart is the Bellsprout/Victreebel line, which is exclusive Leaf green.

Here's how to find and catch Growlithe and evolve it into Arcanine in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Best Moveset and Nature for Vileplume in Pokemon FireRed
Vileplume is a grass/poison-type Pokemon with decent defense, great Sp. Atk, but very low speed. Vileplume relies on a combination of its positional striking moves and special moves to carry the day. Due to its low speed status, it almost never moves first in battle, so it always wants to have at least one self-healing move. The ideal move and nature for Vileplume is:
|
Pokemon |
Nature |
Moveset |
|---|---|---|
|
Vileplume |
Calm (+Sp. Atk, -Speed) Modest (+Sp. Atk, -Atk) |
|
You can use Vileplume as a dedicated disabler, giving enemy Pokemon access to moves like Sleep Powder, Poison Powder, or Stun Spore to make it harder for them to deal with it. Having a Pokemon that can reliably induce status effects can be very useful when trying to catch legendary Pokemon.
Bellossom vs. Vileplume: Which Should You Choose?
After you get the National Dex from Professor Oak, you will be able to get Gen 2 Pokemon. Fire red and leaf green. One of them is Pokemon BellosumAn alternate evolution of Vileplume, which you can get by evolving using Gloom. sun stone.
Bellossom is a pure grass-type Pokemon, with very similar stats and movepool to Vileplume. The base total is the same, and the only difference between the two Pokemon is that Bellossom has 10 more points to Sp. Def, while Vileplume has 10 more points in Sp. Atk.
When it comes down to it, the choice is essentially between a pure Grass-type Pokemon with slightly better defenses (Bellosum) or a Grass/Poison-type Pokemon with slightly higher Sp. Atk but weak defense (Vileplume).
In most cases, Vileplume is a good choice Because while Belosum's good defenses are good, they aren't as universally useful as Vileplume's high Sp. Atk, which makes it one of the best grass-types fire red.
More relevant is the fact that you can't get Belosum until post-game, which makes Vileplume a real choice if you want to use the Gloom Evolution line in Elite Four battles.
