I've done a lot of replays Pokemon Games recently, and after my shiny-only challenge pause Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Because the odds make it a bit too draining, I decided to do the exact same thing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl. Before starting this, I came up with an ideal team based on the color of my shiny starter of choice, which was Chimchar. I usually choose either Turtwig or Piplup, so it was time for me to choose a cute little monkey. Since Infernape has a shimmery gold/yellow and purple tone, I decided to make a purple and yellow glitter team. Pokemon BDSP.
Since the team would feature Infernape, Pachirisu, Cricketun, Gastrodon, Mismagius, and Purugli, the Chimchar would be acquired, followed by a second shiny quest of Route 205, Valley Windworks, or Eterna Forest. Pachirisu and Shelos are both found on Route 205 and Valley Windworks Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shiny PearlWhile Misdreavus Eterna is in the forest and is special shiny pearl. Technically, Kricketot is already there, on Route 202, but the odds aren't great, and I decided to skip that hunt early in the game to avoid unnecessary steps. So, plan in mind, I finally decided to delete my previous save data on my main profile and then started hunting for Chimchar, knowing it would be a huge pain. Little did I know that the game had other plans for me – good plans, that is.

How I Got the Almost-Perfect Shiny Chimchar in Pokemon BDSP
Chimchar is the best starter Pokemon BDSP And Gen 4 as a whole, at least in some areas like gym matchups, the lack of good fire-type Pokemon in the Sinnoh region, and stat distribution. This is why I didn't choose Chimchar, and I was even considering going with a different starter to catch and use shiny Ponyta later, but the idea of a full team of the same color appealed to me, and Chimchar did it. When I started hunting, I expected it to take a lot longer, to the point that I could start playing after a month, if not more. I started on May 11th, with a handful of resets, probably between 15 and 20, because I didn't have time.

Then I only had time for another 60 or so resets on May 12th. It's worth noting that, since there's no way to soft reset games, looking for a shiny starter. As such, I knew it was going to take some time.
On May 13, I had a bit more time, and I probably tried to get Chimchar 120 to 150 times – honestly, I wasn't counting. No luck, but it was expected. So, since I'm more of a night owl than an early riser, I started playing the game around 11:30 PM my time, casually resetting it for Glowing Monkey while watching the video. After reading so many horror stories about sparkly hunting starters I was fully expecting a sparkly starley phase. Pokemon BDSPBut then, suddenly, as I hit the home button on my Switch, ready to close and restart the game, I saw a pink chimera. I had to double-check because I was convinced it wasn't possible, but there it was – a shiny chimchar in less than 300 encounters.
A “phase” in the Pokemon games is when you're hunting a certain target with a shiny, and you get a different one instead. In this case, getting an unknown Shiny Starly in Pokemon BDSP is a step.

Not only that, but my Shiny Chimchar also came with Brave Nature and Max Attack IVs, as well as very high IVs in general, which I calculated shortly after leveling up the little guy. For those who don't know, Brave Nature was my Chimchar (now Monferno) attack-boosting nature at the cost of speed. This is not the best nature for chimchar Pokemon BDSPThat would be either Jolly or Adamant, but in a world where it can be neutralized or attack-reduced, this is one of the best possible outcomes, especially when combined with Max Attack IV. My Chimchar/Monferno's IVs are as follows:

IVs roll anywhere between 0 and 31, with 15 being the lowest, then an 18, then three 26s, and finally a 31 is pretty incredible. I don't think I've ever been as lucky with random shiny pokemon in the number of attempts with nature, stats, and more importantly, hunting with absolute odds. The odds in this game are 1 in 4,096 encounters, so for my Chimchar to shine at less than 300, I was very lucky. And that's not all.
After 89 hours on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl, I want more Pokemon games like this.
I just started my second playthrough of Pokemon BDSP, and I think I judged these games pretty harshly when they came out – as far as wanting more.
How I got Shiny Misdrevus in Pokemon Shining Pearl
When I got my Chimchar, I was very pleased with the results, and I didn't expect to find anything else for a long time. Still, I decided to get to the Route 205/Eterna forest area as soon as possible, which meant getting to the town of Oreburg, beating it. Pokemon BDSPKo Oreburg City Gym, then going to Floro Town, and completing the Valley Windworks quest. I got by pretty easily with my Monferno with a mix of Mach Punch, Power-Up Punch, and Ember (until it got the Flame Wheel).
After doing all this, I had to choose whether to go hunting Pachirisu and Shelos Pokemon BDSPof Eterna Forest. I started looking for the first two at Valley Windworks, but only did so for about 200-250 encounters. After that, I decided to switch to Eterna Forest because you can meet two Pokemon at once when supporting Cheryl, and I would have been better off with Wurmple, Cascoon, or Dustox instead of Misdreaves. This is because you can meet the following Pokemon in Eterna Forest at night:

Now, really, I don't really want bright Budeau and Buneri because I've got so many bright Lopunni and Rosered. Pokemon Legends: ZA Looking for other glosses, but something else would be nice. Misdreavus was my original target, but I didn't want to phase too often, so I was willing to take Wurmple, Cascoon, or Dustox as replacements. Bonus points because both Beautifully and Dustox fit my team's color scheme.
And yet, a few days after setting my Switch 2 clock to 8am to make it always night in Aeterna One for Misdreavus spawns, I got my first shiny – and it was Misdreavus. Not only did I make the phase, but I also got my second shiny, in about 3,000 encounters. Normally, it would be 1 in 4,096, but after Cheryl Pokemon BDSP Making each encounter a double battle, the odds are either 2 in 4,096 or 1 in 2,048. Anyway, yes, I got my second dream team member in a few days without a step, and I still can't believe it.
What's in my Pokemon BDSP shiny-only playthrough
Honestly, I don't consider myself lucky overall, but mine Pokemon Shiny Pearl Running so far is certainly an argument for the opposite. I started this trip on May 11, and a week later, I have two shiners out of the six I wanted to catch. I don't know what the future will bring, but I will continue this journey and aim for my next goal, which I don't know what it will be. I can go back to Route 205 and hope for Pachirisu or Shelos, but I need the Eterna City Gym Badge Pokemon BDSP First to catch another shiny.
We'll see how things go from there, but for now, I'm pretty lucky. As much as I'd like to believe it will always be relatively easy to find the glitter I want, I know it can't always be that way. But I will take things one step at a time. for now, Pokemon BDSPThe Eterna City awaits.
