Xbox provides an official update on the development of The Elder Scrolls 6

Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty has addressed the Elder Scrolls 6 missing from the recent Xbox Game Showcase, and promised that the team will “actually reveal” it at some point.

The past week of gaming showcases has given us a frankly ridiculous amount of things to get excited about, from a game based on The Last Ronin to the long-awaited second trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 . Perhaps the biggest surprise of all, the Xbox arguably ended up being the best performer of the bunch.

From finally revealing Persona 6 after years of rumors and leaks to giving Spyro his first new game in over a decade, Xbox really pulled out all the stops for its big event. There was one major game missing from the lineup, though, and it's the one we've all been waiting to see since it was first announced – The Elder Scrolls 6.

We just have to wait for the “right time”.

I almost certainly don't need to remind you, The Elder Scrolls 6 was originally announced in 2018 with a CG trailer that didn't give us any information about the game. We haven't heard much since then, but it's been almost eight years since it was revealed, with many people expecting something at the Xbox Game Showcase.

Of course, that didn't happen, and we only got a few small announcements for Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online. Variety recently had a chance to chat with Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty about the showcase, which led to a conversation about what's going on with TES 6.

Booty said one of the most challenging parts of his job is wanting to show the world “all the cool stuff you're working on” and get them excited, but knowing that Xbox will have to wait “until the right moment.” With that in mind, Booty says that Xbox will “actually reveal” Elder Scrolls 6 “at the right time” rather than showing it too soon.

I would say that the most challenging balancing act for someone in a job like mine is balancing that you want to show the world all the cool things you're working on, and you want to get them excited early, but we also know that we want to wait until the right moment. And when you do decide to show it off, you want it to be the best you've got. – Matt Booty

While it's a little disappointing for anyone expecting a major update, Booty at least says that after visiting Bethesda and seeing the game in action, Elder Scrolls 6 “looks awesome” and is “coming along nicely.” We'll have to wait and see it in action to know if it's true, but it's the most solid update we've had on the game in a while.
