Amuro Ray's 8 Strongest Mobile Suits, Ranked

Amuro Rey is probably the single greatest pilot Mobile Suit Gundam History, and a Newtype prodigy who won the year-long war for the Federation by skillfully piloting the RX-78-2 – otherwise known as the White Devil. Amuro is so skilled, that even the RX-78-2 couldn't keep up with his growing abilities. Gundam. To call Amuro a living legend would be a universal century understatement.

When Amuro returns Zeta GundamHis talent is above all in the AEUG, his former rivals Char Aznable (now in the guise of Quattro Bazina) and Kamile Bidan, a deeply attended newtype piloting a very high mobile suit. in between Gundam 0079, Zetaand Four counterattacksAmuro pilots some truly impressive mobile suits, all of which are extremely powerful due to his unmatched skills.

Not every fighter can handle Gundam battles, but these talented pilots dominate the battlefield with ease.

Guntank

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079

Guntank

The White Base crew had no choice but to use everything, and everyone, at their disposal to survive the events of the year's war. Mobile Suit Gundam 0079. While the Guntank is not a mobile suit that Amuro often uses, he occasionally pilots it in the original anime. Unlike other mobile suits, the Guntank is designed to be operated by two people, a major flaw in its design.

While Amuro uses the Guntank from time to time depending on the White Base's needs, the suit's signature pilots were Ryu Jose (until his death), and later Hayato Kobayashi. After Ryu's death, the Guntank was upgraded so that it only required one pilot. All told, Guntank isn't a particularly impressive mobile suit, with major weaknesses such as surprisingly poor accuracy and poor mobility.

the gun

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079

the gun

The Gunkannon is a prototype mobile suit similar to the Guntank, but unlike its brother suit, the Gunkannon is actually quite powerful and useful. The Guncannon also suffers from surprisingly poor mobility, but is extremely durable to make up for its lack of agility. Guncannon is tough enough to survive a full-frontal assault from Rick Dome and has enough artillery to rip through Zakus.

in Mobile Suit Gundam 0079Amuro uses a guncannon during the Ramba resin arc to shoot out several resin cores. While Guncannon is stronger than the average Zaku, it is no match for Gouf, as evidenced when Ramba Ral almost killed Amuro during their second fight. While Amuro may use the suit better than anyone else in White Base, Gunkannon's signature pilot is Kai Shiden.

RX-78-2 Gundam

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079

The granddaddy of all Gundams, there's a reason the Zeon soldiers nicknamed the RX-78-2 the “White Devil.” The RX-78-2 Gundam is stronger, faster, and more durable than Zeon's Zaku IIs, while being advanced enough to keep even the Goufs, Gelgoogs, and Char's Zeong at bay. It should be noted that much of the success of the RX-78-2 in the second half of the One Year War comes from the awakening of the Amuro as a new type.

That said, the fact is that the RX-78-2 was designed to get better with more use. The Gundam's learning computer means the RX-78-2 is always adapting to Amuro's growth as a pilot and Zeon's slowly improving technology. In terms of weapons, the RX-78-2 is outfitted with a Beam Saber, Vulcan Gun, Beam Spear, Hyper Bazooka, Shield, and Hammer, giving Amuro ample options for any encounter. The RX-78-2 was destroyed in the Battle of A Baoa Qu, but Zeong made sure to take it out with it – a hugely impressive feat that speaks to Gramps' sheer strength and resilience.

Rick Dias

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam

In Amuro Rick Dias

Rick Dias holds the notable distinction of being the only mobile suit regularly used by both Amuro Rey and Char Aznable in the Universal Century timeline. Rick Dias is a mass production mobile suit used by the AEUG during the Gryps War. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. While Amuro is initially reluctant to return to the Mobile Suit after the end of the Year War, he sorties on Rick Dias several times when he finally returns to action.

Like the RX-78-2, Rick Dias has a variety of weapons to choose from, including a beam saber, grenade, beam rifle, beam pistol, and bazooka. Rick Dias is used by Argama for the entire Grips War, eventually being reserved for pilots like Amuro who no longer use their personal suits. Interestingly, the one used by Rick Dias is Char's personal Rick Dias, which he discards after receiving the Hyaku Shiki. As powerful as Rick Dias is, Amuro is the main reason he has so much success piloting the suit.

Dijeh

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam

Amuro with Dijeh

After his initial story Mobile Suit Zeta GundamAmuro eventually decides to join the AEUG and start piloting again (albeit fighting strictly on Earth). When Amuro finally returns in the second half Zeta GundamHe's no longer piloting Rick Dias, trading off a large production unit in favor of his most quirky and overlooked personal suit, Dijeh. Djeh was for Amuro what Zelgug was for the four, for using the Naginta instead of the Saber.

Amuro's time with Djeh is short, as Comille and Quattro return to space shortly after Amuro's last appearance, but it's a powerful suit designed to thrive in ground-level combat. Dijeh stands out as Amuro's only personal suit that follows the Zeon design philosophy rather than the Federation. In terms of power, the Djeh is comparable to the Hyaku Shiki and Zeta Gundam, receiving a major boost from being piloted by Amuro.

Honorable Mention: Alex

War in the pocket

Alex vs. Zaku

Nicknamed Alex by the Federation Forces, the RX-78NT-1 Gundam is the main mobile suit of the NT-1 10-year anniversary OVA. War in the pocket. Amuro never actually pilots Alex, but it's technically one of his mobile suits because the NT-1 was specially created. for the Amuro piloted one year during the war. Alex was built for Amuro, based on his RX-78-2 piloting glasses and his awakening as a new type.

If Amuro had actually gotten his hands on Alex, he would have been able to clean up the rest of the year's war without much effort, including Char's Jeong. Alex was designed to play off Amuro as a Newtype, so much so that a non-Newtype piloting the Mobile Suit would fail to use it completely. That's exactly what happens at the end of Christina McKenzie War in the pocketwhere she finally destroys the NT-1 during the anime's final battle.

2

Re-GZ

Four counterattacks

Re-GZ

Re-GZ is Amuro's first mobile suit Four counterattacksAnd both look and feel like A's main mech Gundam Anime fans never got to see. Re-GZ was designed by Anaheim Electronics as an alternate, simpler, pilot in the second half of the Zeta Gundam Kamille. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Re-GZ is a high-spec mobile suit that boasts high speed, power, durability, and an excellent tool kit.

Unfortunately, Char's Rebellion took a turn in the Mobile Suit Wars where Psychomus and Psycho-Frames were becoming commonplace for Newtype pilots. For whatever reason, Re-GZ struggles to keep up with Char's sajabi, even with Amuro piloting it. Re-GZ is finally beaten by the Four at the start of the movie, and later completely destroyed by Noah Hathaway. Mobile Suit Gundam: Four counterattacks.

1

Nu Gundam

Four counterattacks

Nu Gundam is Amuro's last Gundam, and one of the best mobile suits in the entire franchise. Based on the specs and designs from the RX-78-2, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, and the Psycho-Frame data four leaked specifically so he could get a good fight from Amuro, the Nu Gundam is an absolute beast. Strong, fast, durable, and versatile, Nu Gundam's weapon kit and funnel make it borderline impossible to put down.

Amuro performs so well in the Nu Gundam in the final battle Four counterattacks Ki Char regrets giving his Psyche-Frame data to the Federation. Nu Gundam beats up Sazabi so badly that Amuro physically carries Char's cockpit at the film's climax. The combination of Nu Gundam's sheer power and Amuro's newtype abilities causes Axis Shock at the end of the movie, saving Earth from being destroyed by Axis. Although not piloted by Amuro, the Nu Gundam appeared in the recent ending Magic of the Nymph Circe During Hathaway's final battle with Lane.
