Dio would then spend the next two years trying to get both of them as much power as possible while making sure his siblings' lives were a living hell. Defeated in the final battle, this forced Jonathan to sacrifice himself to ensure that Dio's body did not reanimate. Sadly, his death was in vain, as the vampire not only survived, but attached his head to Jonathan's body, gaining his powers and continuing his struggle against the Joestar family.

Once his friend and comrade, Griffith developed a great grudge against Guts for straying from the Band of the Hawks. The leader of the mercenary group accused his former friend of abandoning him and allowing him to be arrested and tortured. This anger, combined with a desire for power, led Griffith to sacrifice all of his former friends to become a powerful monster, torturing the guts and taking all semblance of happiness from his life with no negative consequences.

One of the most outspoken traitors in anime history, Ryo Asuka was first introduced as a brilliant boy who wants to see humanity triumph over the menace of Satan. Behind his stern appearance and man's will to thrive lay Satan himself, the embodiment of all chaos. His real plans were to cause division among the people, using their innate fear and anger to cause them to kill each other.

When enough blood was shed, he was able to summon his demonic army, with which he destroyed almost all of humanity. Akira was forced to fight against these cruel creatures and their leaders, causing the destruction of the world and the death of the hero. Although Satan achieved his goal of wiping out humanity as a whole, he did so by losing the only person he truly cared about, making this finale one of the saddest in all of the industry.

Hao became convinced that regular people were unfit to live in such a beautiful world and wanted to create a society with only shamans. He used the strongest spirit power in the series to reach the end of the Shaman King Tournament, winning it despite the interference of Yo and his friends. Although Hao won and became one with the Great Spirit, he decided not to use his newfound abilities to wipe out humanity, instead becoming the gentle and caring guide he wanted to be.

Lucy manages to reach the moon, as David once promised, but this small victory is stained with the blood of her friends and the man she loves.

After being sent into space for their temper and violent tendencies, Yubel spent years plotting revenge against Jaden. They plan to use the powerful Super Polymerization, one of the most powerful cards in the series, to fuse the 12 dimensions that compose existence so that they can always be at their ruler's side. After a long and grueling battle in the best duel of the franchise, Yubel was finally victorious, but used the power to merge his soul and Jaden's.

Arguably one of the smartest characters in anime, this ruler was a cold and calculating creature whose physical and mental abilities were beyond human imagination.

Such was his threat that the Hunter Association was forced to send their most valuable fighter to try and take down Merum, failing spectacularly. Netero, one of the best fighters in the series, had to sacrifice his own life by detonating a toxic radioactive bomb to end the life of the Chimera Ant King.
