How to start stranger in gothic 1 remake
The Stranger starts when you kill a skeleton mage deep under a fog tower, loot Chrominin 1 From its body, and read it. You can technically do this as soon as you're strong enough to clear the area, although it makes better sense to collect the book during Chapter 3, when you go to the Fog Tower to meet Diego at the end of the Water Mages plan.
Before entering the Fog Tower dungeon, make sure you are equipped to deal with large groups of skeletons and at least one skeleton mage. Bring lots of healing items, good gear, and decently upgraded stats, or you may find yourself overwhelmed by enemies.

Chromanin 1 spot
To obtain Chromanin 1, enter the Fog Tower and descend into its underground chambers. Fight your way through the skeletons until you reach the room with the Skeleton Mage, and defeat that enemy. Then, clear any remaining skeletons, loot Chrominin 1 From the mage's body, and read to start this stranger.
The clue to this book is as follows: “A wise fisherman knows not to cast his line, for there are no fish on the other side of the water.”
Your search log says: “Sounds like some kind of puzzle? Something to do with rhythm, maybe?”
Chromanin 2 location
Chromanin 2 is on a table inside a building south of the lake south of New Camp. You'll be familiar with this area if you make it all the way to his neck, as it's near the cave you visit when searching for Bran.
Chromanin 2 says: “The inquisitive scholar searches beyond the words of many, for they sit on the mountains but sit idle.”
Updates your search log: “Somewhere near the hill—perhaps pointing to the library?”
Chromanin 3 place
Chromanin 3 is in the Mountain Fortress, and during Chapter 3 it makes the most sense to grab it while working on Focus in the Mountain Fortress. After solving the bookshelf puzzle in that location, follow the path to the attic, drop down, turn around, and enter the room with the locked chest. The book is on a lectern near the chest.
Chromanin 3 reads: “A blood-stained warrior feeds from the bones of pain, for one obstacle may lead to another.”
Your search log then says: “Another could be a prison or a dungeon.”
Chromanin 4 place
Chromanin 4 is in the dungeon under the castle of the old camp. If you've already completed Bar the Truth, you'll be very familiar with this area.
To get to the book, cross Thors and reach the castle entrance. Now go right and follow the path to the end. On your left, you will see a ladder leading down, and you must lock the door below. After the first door, go through the door on your left, through the metal gate in front of you, and then lock the gate on the right. Continue through the door on your right and follow the path down until you reach the door leading to the torture chamber. Chromanin 4 is on the table to the left after entering.
Use this lockpick solver if you're struggling with any of the doors on the way to Chromanin 4. If you get to Chapter 4, the guards around the castle will be hostile, and the easiest way to deal with them is to run past them, climb down the stairs, and kill the guards once as they come down.
Chromanin 4 says: “The stern guardian knows how to tell the remains of the ruins, for he does not need to ask for whom the bell tolls.”
Updates your search log: “In some sort of ruin? The bell… and the guardian… something to do with the ruin?”
Chromanin 5 place
Chromanin 5 is in the Old Citadel, making it a natural pickup during A Shaman Shunned in Chapter 4. Before leaving for this location, make sure you have a blunt weapon handy, as you'll encounter a Stone Golem next to the book.
Go behind the ruins to find a bell sitting on a ledge. Climb onto the ring and push off the ledge to shatter the metal grate below. Drop through the opening and follow the path until you reach the room with the Stone Golem. Chromanin 5 is on a small round table just to the left after entering the room, and you can collect it after dealing with the golem.
Chromanin 5 reads: “The seeker finds me where it all began.”
The quest log repeats that line, sending you back to the starting point.
Chromanin 6 place
It's now time to return to the Skeleton Mage room under the Fog Tower. Last time you were there, blue barriers blocked the room's double doors, but you'll find those barriers are now gone.
Enter the small room to the left of the stairs to find it Chromanin 6 In the lecture. Read it to complete The Stranger and defeat the skeletons that spawn.
The Stranger Prize
The real rewards for completing The Stranger are in the room next to the lectern room where Chromanin 6 is found. This room was previously blocked by a blue barrier, and the chest contained the following items:
-
A storm of fire magic
-
Ring of Greater Invincibility
-
Inscription of transformation into Shadowbeast
-
5x Parchment
-
Elixir of magical energy
-
Summon the Skeleton Scroll
The Ring of Greater Invincibility is especially valuable, as it provides some very solid defensive stats. While you can buy that ring from Xardas, it's pretty expensive, so getting one for free through The Stranger makes it worth the effort.
