Dave the Diver In the Jungle Staff Unlock Guide

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle features nine staff members who can be recruited for Bancho Grill: Yasuto, Martin Tweed, Rover, Om Nom, Charlie Bonnet III, William Longbottom, Mita, Udo, and Sato. To unlock these employees, players must complete specific sub missions and VIP missions.

Some staff unlocks are closely tied to story progression, while others come from optional questlines, timed VIP missions, collection progress, and side content. Players who want to recruit every Bancho Grill staff member in Dave the Diver: In the Jungle should keep a close eye on side missions, sub missions, and VIP missions as they become available.

How to Recruit Yasuto

Yasuto is unlocked through the UFO-seeking NPCs’ storyline. In our playthrough, those characters arrived on the night of Day 3, and the Traces of the UFO sub mission automatically triggered after service on the night of Day 4.

On Day 5, the NPCs appeared near Dave’s house, and a short cutscene played when approaching them. Yasuto was unlocked as a Bancho Grill staff member at the end of that cutscene.

Yasuto’s base stats are 12 Cooking, 24 Serving, 18 Procure, and 22 Appeal. His first skill is Spider Web, which allows him to quickly deliver food. His second skill, Amazing Spider Webs, unlocks at Level 5 and lets him serve skewers. Yasuto is a good first option for the Dining Area, and he can be unlocked very early in the DLC.

How to Recruit Martin Tweed

Martin Tweed appears for the first time at the end of the Traces of the UFO sub mission. In our playthrough, he showed up again when Dave went diving on Day 5, at which point he started the Lake Purification sub mission. After completing that side mission, Martin appeared outside Dave’s house the next morning and joined Bancho Grill as a staff member.

Martin Tweed’s base stats are 60 Cooking, 18 Serving, 22 Procure, and 18 Appeal. His first skill is Mechanic Cooking, which lets him instantly finish cooking with a robotic arm. His second skill, Cooking+, unlocks at Level 5 and permanently increases his cooking ability. The Kitchen is the best place for Martin Tweed, especially once he gets Cooking+.

How to Recruit Rover

Bancho giving Dave a VIP mission in Dave the Diver In the Jungle

Rover is unlocked through a VIP mission, The Taste of Fish, that triggers when Bonita appears at Bancho Grill after closing. In our playthrough, that occurred on the night of Day 6.

After the VIP mission begins, Dave has two days to collect the required ingredients and serve the dish to Bonita. Once she has eaten it, Rover shows up and joins Bancho Grill as a staff member.

Rover’s base stats are 10 Cooking, 17 Serving, 30 Procure, and 65 Appeal. His first skill is Resonance, which causes him to receive tips more often and in larger amounts when serving. This is a great way to earn Doni, and Rover should be placed in the Dining Area as soon as he is unlocked.

At Level 5, Rover gains access to Dispatch Master, which lets him acquire more items through dispatch. Sending him out for items can be useful later, but he is so good at earning tips that players should keep him in the Dining Area until they have plenty of Doni.

How to Recruit Om Nom

Om Nom puzzle minigame in Dave the Diver In the Jungle

Om Nom is unlocked by completing the Candy Thief sub mission chain. In our playthrough, Panutah started this questline on the morning that Chapter 4 began, and it includes the following missions:

  • The Midnight Candy Thief
  • The Candy Thief’s Footprint
  • Catch the Candy Thief!

During the quest chain, players must complete a puzzle minigame that involves slicing ropes in the correct order to send fruit to Om Nom. After completing that minigame, Om Nom heads to Bancho Grill and becomes a staff member.

Om Nom’s base stats are 14 Cooking, 16 Serving, 22 Procure, and 50 Appeal. His first skill is Master of Serving Jungle Drinks, which allows him to prepare and serve coconuts and mango shakes. His second skill, Intimidate, unlocks at Level 5 and gives Om Nom the ability to frighten monkeys away. These two skills make Om Nom great for automating tasks that Dave would normally need to handle manually, so he should be assigned to the Dining Area.

How to Recruit Charlie Bonnet III

Charlie Bonnet III is unlocked through The Musician of Nashville, a sub mission from Jaka. In our playthrough, Charlie Bonnet III appeared at the end of service on the night of Day 12. The next morning, talking to Jaka started a short sequence where Jaka and Charlie meet, and Charlie unlocked as a Bancho Grill staff member at the end of that sequence.

Charlie Bonnet III’s base stats are 10 Cooking, 21 Serving, 25 Procure, and 58 Appeal. His first skill is Fantastic Melody, which causes him to play the guitar to earn tips from nearby customers. At Level 5, Charlie unlocks Serving Skewers, which allows him to serve skewers, though he cannot prepare them. He is a great addition to the Dining Area, providing both automation and additional tips.

How to Recruit William Longbottom

Helping William Longbottom in Dave the Diver In the Jungle

William Longbottom is unlocked by completing the Unihornus questline. To start, reach Chapter 6, and look for William on the ground near the swamp on the north side of Setah Forest. Players will receive the Explorer in the Forest sub mission at the end of that encounter, and they can advance the questline by talking to William on the beach back at the village.

Players will then need to return to Setah Forest to defeat enemies, collect Unihornus Bones, and ultimately beat the giant snakehead during the Horn of Unihornus mission. William will join Bancho Grill staff when players return with the horn.

William Longbottom’s base stats are 10 Cooking, 8 Serving, 72 Procure, and 40 Appeal. His first skill is Exploration Expert, which allows him to obtain various ingredients through expeditions. He unlocks Dispatch Master at Level 5, letting him acquire more items through dispatch, and he is the best staff member to send out on Dispatch.

How to Recruit Mita

Mita is unlocked by completing Chandra’s Suspicion, a sub mission given by Chandra. Players need to complete a couple of missions for Gesang, her husband, before Chandra’s Suspicion becomes available, so make sure to address those quests when they appear.

Mita’s base stats are 22 Cooking, 15 Serving, 16 Procure, and 45 Appeal. Her first skill is Bonk Hammer, which instantly finishes skewers with a squeaky hammer. At Level 5, she gains access to Serving Jungle Drinks, allowing her to crack open and serve coconuts. The Dining Area is therefore the best place for Mita.

How to Recruit Udo

Udo is unlocked by completing A Giant Stag Beetle?, a sub mission that becomes available when players reach 50% Insectagram completion. Players who need help filling the Insectagram can use our all insect locations guide.

Udo’s base stats are 16 Cooking, 22 Serving, 22 Procure, and 35 Appeal. His first skill is Keepsake Photo, and it lets him take photos to reduce customer stress. His Level 5 skill is Flash, which scares away monkeys. Players who are feeling overwhelmed during service can try adding Udo to the Dining Area.

How to Recruit Sato

Sato is unlocked by completing A Monster Snapping Turtle!, a sub mission that becomes available when players fill 50 entries in the Marinca Bloom app. Players who need help finding creatures for Marinca Bloom can use our all fish guide.

Sato’s base stats are 45 Cooking, 24 Serving, 18 Procure, and 14 Appeal. He starts with Ranged Service, allowing him to throw food to serve customers from a distance. He picks up Small Flame at Level 5, causing him to finish all cooking at once with a small flame, and the Kitchen is the best spot for him.

Which Bancho Grill Staff Should You Train First?

In the early game, increasing the amount of Doni earned during service is extremely helpful. It is therefore recommended that players train Rover first, as improving his stats will lead to better tips and more money.

Once income is stable, players can consider shifting Rover to dispatch to take advantage of his Dispatch Master skill, then placing Om Nom and Charlie Bonnet III in the Dining Area and training them. Once both of those staff members reach Level 5, almost every service task except preparing skewers can be automated, allowing Dave to focus on grilling and collecting Doni.

The Kitchen is easier to manage without heavy upgrades. Martin Tweed should be assigned there, but training him does not need to be an early priority unless the Kitchen is falling behind during service.

Do Staff Unlocks Come From Main Missions?

Most Bancho Grill staff unlocks in Dave the Diver: In the Jungle come from sub missions, not main missions, though Yasuto and Martin Tweed are closely connected to story progression. Rover is tied to a timed VIP mission, so players should prioritize that request before its deadline expires.

Om Nom, Charlie Bonnet III, William Longbottom, Mita, Udo, and Sato are tied to optional questlines or collection progress. Players who want every staff member should complete sub missions as they appear, check in with villagers and visitors regularly, and keep working on the Insectagram and Marinca Bloom apps.
