Anyone familiar with Norse mythology (which most people now know thanks to Marvel) knows that Loki is the trickster god, the son of Laufe and Farbauti, and sometimes the adopted son of Odin. He is often portrayed as a villain, who casts doubt on Atreus' future virtue. However, things probably won't be as simple as a predictable pivot for the worse, if at all God of War Ragnarok All are indicative of upcoming entries.

When I first played it God of War RagnarokI was a bit disappointed with Loki's trip to Atreus. Characters like Odin and Angrboda call him Loki, and there are certain similarities to the Loki of Norse myth (such as shape-shifting powers), but there is no single, major twist related to Atreus' alter ego. But after a while, the Santa Monica studio's story plans became more clear: the studio is producing its own version of the Norse legend. god of warInstead of adapting existing presentations or completely reversing them.

It's helpful to remember how the Loki Twist unfolds in the first place. at the end of god of war 2018, After Laufey's ashes are scattered in Jotunheim, Atreus and Kratus come upon a mural painted by Faye and her Jotnar kin, who hold the power of premonition. The mural states that the Fae foretold the arrival of Kratos in the Norse realms and the birth of Atreus, among other events. But since Jotnar could not find out their names, they were called Farbauti and Loki respectively.
Farbouti roughly translates to “dangerous striker”, which might explain why Zotnar gave Kratos that name – it's quite fitting. The etymology of Loki is less clear, although some researchers believe that the name comes from the Germanic root look, which prefixes words related to loops, nets, and locks.
The revelation of Loki's name is a shock to the players, but not necessarily to Kratos and Atreus. “Loki” is another Nordic-sounding name for them, lacking any real significance. This is why Atreus follows the same path as Loki God of War RagnarokBut with a certain twist.
For example, the wolf Fenrir is the child of Loki in Norse myth, and most stories present this as a literal father-son relationship, God of War Ragnarok This makes it symbolic, as Fenrir is basically the “fur child” of Atreus. Likewise, he is not fully adopted by Odin, but taken under his wing, with Al-Father taking on a more ambiguous patriarchal role. We can think god of war series as an alternative interpretation of Norse lore, its creative liberties are far less dramatic than they first appear. It is different, but so can a theologian's wild theory.

According to the aforementioned Jotunheim graffiti, Kratos was supposed to die during Ragnarok, but that apparently didn't happen – Kratos and Atreus made their own fates. But most of Jotnar's other visions actually came true. We assume that their Atreus-related visions ended with Ragnarok, but it could be that Laufey saw different conclusions in his son's future, or in alternate realities, past or upcoming events.
In both cases, Laufey God of War Will provide more insight into Atreus, especially through the eyes of his mother. This is an important difference: we've seen a lot of character development for Atreus so far, but always through the filter of Kratos. When Atreus loses control of his temper, it has been suggested that this is an inherited trait from Kratos, for example. We get more information about the name Loki, sure, but also more details about Atreus' life as Loki. For example, maybe Faye could have a vision of Atreus' original destiny, showing a version of the future where Kratos dies and Atreus truly becomes Odin's adopted son. Perhaps Faye could sense her son's natural fear of turning to the dark side, such as it was.
This is to say nothing of the loosely defined Everwhen. Laufey has already seen Kratos, which suggests the possibility of visions appearing in the area. so much god of war Revolves around fate and destiny, both of which are closely linked to the fae, who have the power to reveal the future. As such, it wouldn't be out of place for Faye to further dissect the character's twists of fate, thus some version of Loki, good or bad, everywhere.
