Perfect early game build for Abelard in Rogue Trader

Abelard is your trusted seneschal rogue merchantAnd he's a pretty good frontline unit too. As both a warrior and a naval officer, he is able to charge straight into the enemy's face and tear them apart with critical hits and counter-attacks. Abelard can destroy large numbers of fighters rogue trader, But before he can get to that point, you need to know how to harness his abilities and gear him up with tools that enable risky melee tactics.

Daring Breach IV

The idea behind this initial Abelard build is to give him enough survivability to serve as the team's main tank without compromising his damage output, the way you build a fighter-style character in other modern CRPGs. The Daring breach The ability for the warrior archetype is initially extremely powerful, Because it essentially gives you another turn with some extra MP on top. When this heroic deed becomes available, Abelard will be able to As long as he has AP left, keep running out of enemies' piecesBut before he can do that, he needs to actually survive fights first. For that, we will take the following abilities and talents:

  • Hard spots: Adds +1 damage deflection when you hit until end of turn.
  • Thick skin: Adds +1 damage break and parry chance based on your total armor.
  • Screams of Blasphemy: Become a priority target for enemies who fail a Willpower check for 3 rounds.
  • Fleet Combat Training: When you score a critical hit or parry an enemy, immediately attack the same enemy with your secondary weapon.
  • Defensive Stance: If you have not attacked this turn, gain bonus armor (charge and slash attacks do not affect this bonus).
  • Daring Breach II: Gain +4 MP after each kill, and you can use your MP using attacks or abilities.
  • The focal point of the murder: When you attack, gain +1 stack of Slaughter Center until end of battle. Gain +1 temporary wound for each stack, up to a maximum of 6.
  • Reckless strike: Your next attack gains bonus armor penetration and damage, and ignores a percentage of the enemy's parry chance. Enemies that avoid this attack immediately attack you (range too).
  • Leave Me!: As long as the braced effect lasts, you gain Get Off Me! Once per goal capacity. When activated, melee attacks can knock prone enemies.
  • Tips to Avoid: Allies affected by a braced effect or your other non-attack archetype abilities gain a bonus dodge chance for 1 round. While braced, you and your allies do not trigger attacks of opportunity.
  • Go to cover!: All allies gain an extra turn with +6 MP, 0 AP, and +30% cover efficiency when affected by the braced effect.
  • Daring Breach IV: This turn, your melee attacks deal +2 damage.

The playstyle is simple: rush the enemy, then do your best to kill them all before they can deal too much damage to Abelard or other team members. Use Reckless Strike to establish targets or trigger fleet combat trainingAnd let your defensive passives keep you alive. If you think you're in danger, use it Brace for effect To gain more deflection and dodge chance (courtesy of Avoidance tactics) without triggering attacks of opportunity (thanks Go to cover).

Use Endure as often as you can to greatly improve Abelard's survivability.

What about other archetypes?

For Abelard's second archetype, I recommend getting it Arch-Militant for its powerful offensive capabilities. The Versatility Talents provide tons of free weapon and ballistic skills, increasing the damage you deal with melee and ranged weapons respectively. Steady superiority Only gives you more attacks until the end of the fight, letting you slash or mow down enemies before they have a chance to move.

When the entire enemy force is dead, and the enemies start getting deadly (around the time you start. rogue merchant Lex Imperialis DLC or some other similar point in time), you'll want your targets gone before they cause bigger problems.

Best gear for Abelard in Rogue Trader

Heavy armor and swords are great for Abelard because they synergize with the talents listed above.. I especially like using one-handed chainswords on him as they deal extra critical damage while also giving a bonus to your parry stat, which works wonders for fleet combat training and reckless strikes.

Combine a one-handed chainsword with a pistol for a little more ranged versatility, or use another melee weapon with a different innate effect (like the Chainaxe, which can cause bleeding). Once you've unlocked the Arch-Militant archetype, be sure to alternate between single-target and area strikes so you can stack versatility.

If you're having trouble surviving early, consider using a shield in your off-hand slot. Once you unlock the Arch-Militant archetype, you can drop the shield for a second weapon.
