Great open-world games that let you conquer territories

In the face of oppression, victory and liberation can be interchangeable. At least, that's what many open-world games seem to believe, as they let players slowly conquer the map one area at a time. Basically, the process involves killing hundreds of enemies, clearing the outposts, killing the leader, and then taking advantage of your loot.

During the last decade, the “conquer every territory” structure became overused, and its poor execution often resulted in grind-heavy games that repeated the same formula over and over again. Still, we shouldn't just focus on the bad examples, as many great open-world games effectively use this process to create addictive gameplay loops that we can return to again and again.

Mafia 3
