Guts Lets Go of All Hope in Berserk Volume 43
Berserk Volume 43 is going to be an awkward read for many fans, especially those who have been following Guts' story for years (if not decades) now. After losing Casca in volume 42, Guts has fallen into a deep depression – which has completely robbed him of all will to live. The Eastern Exile arc takes the story to Kushan, the exit BerserkThe world and cast even more so as the Kushan Empire prepares for an all-out war against Griffiths and Falconia.
Chapters 374 through 382 are filled with rich world-building, intense action, and Guts' most uncomfortable character “development.” The eclipse at least assured that Guts would become the Black Swordsman at the beginning of the manga, but in the Eastern Exile arc, it really feels like the world is coming to an end – and what little fire Guts has left to fuel him.
