Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's 'Emergence' feels like a love letter to zombies
About halfway done Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's campaign, 'Emergence' sees Frank Woods' team of rogue black ops agents investigate a former CIA research facility in Kentucky in hopes of learning more about a mysterious bioweapon known as “The Cradle”. Upon reaching the facility, player-character William “Case” Calderon falls down an elevator shaft, separating him from the rest of the team.
Upon hitting the bottom of the shaft, Case's gas mask breaks, forcing him to inhale an unknown green gas. The psychoactive effects of the gas soon rear their heads, as the mannequins around Case begin to move as he turns his back. The player will eventually find themselves in a grand atrium, and are told that they need to find four keys to access the elevator that will reunite them with their team.
'Emergence' is essentially a story-led zombie mission
When that objective appears, players will hear a group of guttural sounds behind them. Wandering around will bring the player face-to-face with a small group of undead researchers and facility workers, whom they must dispatch with their equipped axes.
The following 20-30 minutes sees the player embark on what is essentially a story-driven, single-player. Call of Duty Zombies Experience. Players will have to make their way through four passkeys spread across the facility, fighting off waves of confused zombies between each one. To get each key, the player needs to fight a mini-boss, taken from each one Black Ops 6Seen in the context of Zombies mode, or the past Call of Duty Zombies anti
Players will face off against the Mangler, an abomination and a monster that can suddenly turn invisible and hide in objects, which may be a shadowy version of Terminus' Amalgam boss. The final boss players fight Call of Duty: Black Ops 6The 'Emergence' map is a floating undead researcher attacking yellow lightning. Although there is no 1:1 comparison to this boss, it may be a subtle reference to Avogadro, an electric-based boss from Black ops 2of TranZit and Black Ops 4Alpha Omega.
At one point in 'Emergence', a zombie scientist flies past the player and opens a door, which may be a reference to Five's Pentagon burglar.
