Black Ops 7's Kowakuzo is set to be one of the best zombies maps

When discussing the biggest CoD The top 4 zombie maps of all time are basically set in stone. There's Genesis and its unforgettable robots marching across the battlefield, hordes of the dead and its brilliant storytelling within Alcatraz, Shadows of the Morgue City filled with detailed descriptions, and Der Eisendrache's introduction to the mode's first true boss fight. That number five spot, though, is where things start to get a little different. Point something out BO4The best of Chaos maps, IX or Ancient Evil, while others have a soft spot for Zombies map burial. Gorod Crowe, A Black ops 3 Gems are also brought up regularly, and interestingly, it's a map Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Just referenced with its Kowakujo cinematic.

The Gorod Krovi reference is a bold move because it makes it immediately Black Ops 7 Fans think back to the “golden age” of the mod that was Black ops 3. Still, it's impossible not to notice the similarities, with the Kowakuzo intro cutscene beginning with the heroes descending from the sky onto a new map — just as Premise did in Gorod Krovy's intro. Beyond that, the map appears to feature dragon combat similar to Gorod Krovy's iconic boss battle, further connecting the two maps. Sure, the new map focuses on Takeo's story as opposed to Nikolai's, and depicts a volcano-hit settlement as opposed to war-torn Stalingrad, but it's hard to ignore the presence of dragons within the cinematic framing and fiery setting. Those parallels indicate that Treyarch is confident in Kowakujo, but they're not the only reason Zombies fans should mark June 25 on their calendars.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 are officially making a comeback

Treyarch takes to Twitter to confirm that the classic Call of Duty games, Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, are making a comeback.

Kowakujo is riding on the momentum of Tottenham

For the first time in more than five years, it feels like wholeness CoD The Zombies community was united in praising the new map when Totenreich was released. Of course, there have been A-tier maps since then Black Ops 4 – Both were excellent at Citadelle Des Morts and Shattered Veil Black Ops 6 – but they still had problems that the old school players couldn't solve. Totenreich, though, is special. A truly memorable boss fight, a large and beautiful map, map-specific equipment to pursue, and side Easter eggs with rewards that differ from typical rescue or aether equipment drops help elevate the map.

Totenreich is arguably the first time since Ancient Evil where a Zombies map belongs in the same discussion as all-time greats like Genesis and Shadow of Evil. And with that S-tier map, it feels like Treyarch has finally struck the right balance between old-school depth and the streamlined mechanics of modern Zombies to make it easier for new players to get into the mode. Treyarch has certainly seen the reception of Totenreich, and it can be assumed that this future map is coming in the same way. The presence of a unique special enemy in Kowakujo again suggests as much, so with the momentum behind it, it's safe to assume that the next big map could be released in a few days.

And beyond just Totenreich, Black Ops 7 There has been a fantastic iteration of the mode. Of course, Paradox Junction was a bit disappointing since Nuketown is dead, but its quest was better than many expected and it's arguably the best-feeling Nuketown Zombies map. Other maps have also done what the community wanted. For years, players have wanted to see another stab at a Transit-like map, and they got it with Ashes of the Damned. Similarly, the divisive George Romero Special Enemy from Call of the Dead was vital for another effort, and Astra Malorum delivered with an OSCAR. Small survival maps, an awesome Cursed mode with relics that act like halo skulls, experimental modes like Rogue Run, Dead Ops Arcade 4, and a stellar Camo Grand are all other points of strength. overall, BO7 Zombies is great, so it's safe to assume Kawakujo will be no different.

Kowakujo's Tom Kane Tribute means no room for failure

Beyond the parallels to Gorod Krovi, the intro cinematic for Kowakuzo confirms that this Takeo-themed map will serve as a tribute to Tom Cain, the original actor for Takeo who played him. World at war who Black Ops 4. He was unfortunately unable to return to Tecchio's voice at BO7 due to a stroke he experienced, and his recent passing in May 2026 was a heartbreaking moment for many of his fans. CoD Corpse community. These players are hoping for a special side quest that will act as a tribute to Kane on Takeo's map, and it's now possible that they'll get that and then some. If Treyarch was even slightly concerned about Kowakujo's quality, it wouldn't have immortalized Tom Cain within the map's intro. Coming hot on the heels of Treyarch Totenreich, deliberately making players think of Gorod Krovi, and having the duty to celebrate the late Tom Kane with this map, it feels like there's no world where Kowakujo isn't a top-tier experience.
