Cyberpunk 2077 Fan adds a realistic map mode to the game

Key takeaways

  • Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be a huge hit with fans, with many finding new ways to enjoy Night City.
  • An ambitious game developer released a “real map” mod for the game, turning Night City into a Google Earth-level map.
  • The mod, which can be found at Nexus Mods, gives a great glimpse of what could and will be on the horizon for the next cyberpunk.

Almost four years after its release in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is still going strong among fans. Interview: Cyberpunk 2077 Quest Designer on Romance, Tragedy, and Lessons Learned

Cyberpunk 2077: The Phantom Liberty Quest designer Maria Mazur walks us through the creation of the expansion and how CDPR changed.

V, zoom in on that section there

Taking to Reddit, the designer showed off their creation, which is reportedly their first twist on cyberpunk. If so, what debut.

The mod, which can be found at Nexus Mods, “replaces the default map with a high-resolution 2D rendered texture of the actual map,” according to the description. Unfortunately, like most mods, it's currently only accessible on PC, meaning console players are left out.

That said, it's a fantastic look at what could be, and what could be coming down the line in the next entry. Through the mode, one can zoom in and out on various points of interest, with more details becoming apparent as you dive deeper.

Of course, some “illusions” compare to how big Night City really is, but it's still an amazing proof of concept. The creator is currently pursuing a game programming degree, and if we have to hedge any bets, their future is extremely bright.
