Announces downtime for Fortnite v40.20

  • Downtime Start Time: April 16, 2026, 4 a.m. ET

Fortnite has now revealed that the downtime for patch v40.20 will begin at 4 AM ET. This means that the servers will be down in the early hours of April 16th. Then, a few hours later, the servers should be back online after the patch has been uploaded and everything is ready to go. Players who want to organize their playing time before the update should be aware that matchmaking is usually disabled 30 minutes before downtime. Therefore, they will not be able to enter a new game after 3:30 AM ET. This next Fortnite The update is especially exciting for a large part of the community for three reasons: it brings Fortnite Festival Season 14, introduces Pro Vocals and Pro Drums, and Save the World is free-to-play.

Laufey fans will be able to get additional cosmetics and skins in her Skin Item Shop and in the Music Pass. Karaoke fans will be able to use the microphone to sing Fortnite. They should plug it into their console or PC and sing their hearts out with the songs at Fortnite Festival. Additionally, they can also connect a Rock Band 4 or any other compatible drum kit to play drums while jamming along.

Save the World was the original Fortnite game mode, but unlike Battle Royale and other modes, it was a game that could only be accessed by those who purchased the Founders Pack or the Save the World Quest Pack. As of April 16, everyone will be able to access Save the World for free. Unfortunately, they won't get free V-Bucks in Save the World once it's free-to-play, as it's only for those who pay to play.

Due to the popularity of other game modes, Save the World was put on the back burner when it came to adding new content. At this point, some players believe that Save the World is worth it just for the V-Bucks. However, even if this feature isn't available to free-to-play players, it's still worth a try to see how players feel about it – especially if they're fans of tower defense games.
