It's been 365 days now, an entire year, since we've had any glimpse of significant Grand Theft Auto 6 news.
On May 6, 2025, Rockstar Games released a second trailer for the game, along with a website full of images and descriptions of the game's main and supporting cast, including Jason, Lucia, and Cal. That, however, was the last piece of real news we got about the game, aside from a handful of interviews, and it's driving fans bananas.
A year since Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer 2
Marketing for GTA 6 has been slow. With GTA 5, about 7 months before launch, the press got their hands on the game, and had interviews with its director. We are now in the same window for GTA 6, and have received nothing but silence for a long time.
Take-Two CEO, Rockstar's parent company, Strauss Zelnik, has been interviewed for a range of reasons why GTA 6 is leaving PC at launch, revealing that the company will “charge less than it's worth” for the game, and that he thinks everyone over the age of 17 will play the game, but there is a lack of meaningful information on the actual GTA 6. It is possible that the news is close, the proximity of the release and the announcement of Take-Two's results for the fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2026 on May 21, but for now, nothing.
As has long been the case with Grand Theft Auto 6, players are losing their minds, doing whatever they can to pass the time, and trying to predict when the next news will drop.
In the past few weeks alone, a player counted 14,000 trees by hand to calculate the game's foliage density, estimating it to be four times denser than Red Dead Redemption 2, and there are countless theories as to when Rockstar will drop the third trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6.
One such theory used the license plate to suggest the drop date is May 15, while another used a Rockstar Newswire post to predict we should be somewhat closer. It's almost a daily occurrence in one of the many GTA 6 subreddits that a new, often wacky theory bubbles to the surface. It's giving off shades of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
It's not just fans who are having fun predicting things. Everyone likes to add their two cents, and analysts are no different. One predicted that the game would sell out nearly every game in just 24 hours, and another, this time from Bank of America, suggested that Rockstar should charge $80 for the good of “the entire industry.”
It's a wild situation, and hype levels are at an all-time high. Now, we need to show restraint and patience. And pray there is no further delay.
