Killing of Hamas leader intended to prolong Gaza conflict, Abbas tells RIA news agency

Ramallah: The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was aimed at prolonging the conflict in Gaza and complicating talks to resolve the crisis, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told Russia's Riya state news agency in comments published on Tuesday. “There is no doubt that the purpose of killing Mr. Haniyah is to prolong the war and expand its scope,” RIA quoted Abbas as saying. “This will have a negative impact on ongoing negotiations to end the offensive and withdraw Israeli forces from Gaza.”
