Marvel's Wolverine is just around the corner, but gamers hoping for a chance to play as Jean Gray will be disappointed. Insomniac Games has mentioned in the past that Jean Gray will not be a playable character Marvel's WolverineAnd it looks like the developer is doubling down on it. If Wolverine is indeed the only character gamers get to control, then it seems Insomniac Games has learned the wrong lesson from past criticism.
i loved Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2But there were some criticisms that I agree with, especially when it comes to sequels. The story pacing felt off to me, and there are also the infamous MJ stealth missions that were part of both games. I don't really like the MJ missions, for the most part, but I agree that they have some weak points. People buy one Spider Man The game to play as a web-slinging hero, and being forced to step into MJ's shoes takes players out of the hero fantasy. Keeping Wolverine as the only playable character Marvel's Wolverine Sounds like a response to MJ critiques, and that's the wrong takeaway.
It makes more sense to make Jean Gray a playable character in Marvel's Wolverine than MJ in Spider-Man.
Jean Gray is one of the greatest X-Men characters of all time, and getting to play as her is something many fans (including me) have been hoping for. Her telekinetic powers have a lot of potential to shake up the game's combat, and her telepathy presents the perfect opportunity to add some stealth-based missions to the mix, much stronger than MJ missions. However, Insomniac has clarified that Jean Gray is not a playable character Marvel's WolverineWhich is just an all-around interesting choice given the potential.
Not everyone likes stealth, but the Insomniac games really could have used Jean Gray as a spy-like character like they tried to use MJ. Marvel's Spider-Man Games. However, they should make sense in a broader context, and Jean Gray makes even more sense as a playable character in a superhero game. She's incredibly powerful, and her abilities are very different from Wolverine's, which only adds extra gameplay depth, and potentially opens the door for a future Jean Gray game.
Marvel's Wolverine can still surprise gamers with Jean Grey, but expectations should be kept low.
There's always a possibility that Insomniac Games is bluffing, but that doesn't really make much sense. Gamers threatened to boycott Marvel's Wolverine As a way to protest Sony's decision to stop physical games after 2028, the game needs to generate more hype than ever to convince people to play. So, an imaginary bluff to try and surprise the players would be a big mistake.
Jean Gray isn't the only major The X-Men Characters who have been confirmed to make an appearance in the game. Iconic mutants such as Mystique, Omega Red, and Sabretooth have all been featured in various trailers for the game.
Only time will tell if there are any other playable characters besides Wolverine.
