Move ZA until I find an almost unbeatable strategy

Pokemon Legends: ZAThe 'new take on the series' gameplay definitely takes a while to click, even for a seasoned player like me. Managing cooldowns on my team's moves feels more like I'm playing an MMO than a traditional one Pokemon The game is, but it also opens the door to catch new strategies. while i think Pokemon Legends: ZAWhile the overall shift from turn-based combat to active-time combat is a fun spin on combat for a series that has stagnated in recent years, there's bound to be some disappointment in how some moves have been reworked to accommodate this change.

As an enthusiastic competitor Pokemon Player, I know very well the value of protecting my mons. Being able to strategically negate damage is a game-changer that can help turn the tide of battle even in a casual playthrough. but, Pokemon Legends: ZAThe battle mechanics had me pulling my hair out on this move for the longest time, but once I found the sweet spot, I realized that Protect is one of the best moves in the game when used correctly.

Accessing TM for security is very easy; This requires reaching rank 4 of Mabel's research Pokemon Legends: ZA. I hit this point within the first two hours of my playthrough and immediately taught every member of my party to TM. I fully expected to use it in my first ZA Royale Promotion match, but when my Totodile attempt to use Protect to prevent Zach's Pikachu from dealing too much effective damage failed, I was annoyed with the move and decided that the game wanted me to prioritize offense over a defensive playstyle.

How Defense Has Changed in Pokemon Legends: ZA's

  • Type: Normal

  • Category: Status

  • Cooldown: 15

  • Effect: The user takes a protective stance that prevents incoming attacks from landing.

Historically, Protect worked as a priority PokemonA turn-based combat that allows the user to negate all incoming damage from their opponent. The downside to this move's effect was that it had a very high chance of failure if the player used it too many times in a row. While Pokemon Legends: ZA Removes Protect's section from failing if used multiple times in a row, it has a very long cooldown of 15 seconds to prevent players from spamming the move.

Instead of guaranteeing protection against damage that turn, Protect now grants the user a small window of invulnerability to prevent incoming attacks from dealing damage. This is where things got tricky for me; Timing Protect meant I had to pay attention to when the opponent's Pokemon would attack so that I could activate the move within that window of protection. It took a lot of getting used to figuring out where the window was and anticipating the opponent's attacks, but I'm glad I finally stuck with it as I found Protect to be invaluable. Detection is another trick that provides protection against incoming attacks. However, few Pokemon can learn it, and this move has a shorter protection window and a shorter cooldown than Protect.

With the right strategy, Protect became a must-use move in Pokemon Legends: ZA

Managing Protect's cooldown, along with the timing of its protection window, can be frustrating for me at first. However, what I eventually realized is that the key to success is keeping an eye on the opposing Pokemon while the moves they are about to use are displayed above their heads. Most Pokemon have a brief window between when the move is shown and when the move actually follows through, where activating Protect can block the move entirely. With enough practice, I was able to find that sweet spot and use Protect to save my Pokemon from some tough situations both in the main story and in the main story.
