That said, Naruto wasn't always the capable 7th Hokage he is today. In fact, on his way, he faced many difficult situations and failed many times. That failure, however, is a part of who he is today and has defined his entire existence.

Naruto Uzumaki has fought many opponents over the years but few have managed to stop him or interrupt the fight. One of Orochimaru's Kimimaro managed to do just that. While Naruto was searching for Sasuke, he was stopped by Kimimaro, and the two engaged in a fierce battle in which the young Uzumaki failed to break through his defenses.

Even though he wanted to go to Sasuke right away, Naruto failed. Naruto was able to chase Sasuke once until Rock Lee arrived and if that didn't happen, he could potentially lose the fight.

A clear failure in Naruto's entire life is losing his battle with Sasuke and consequently, allowing him to leave Konoha for good. It happened at the end of the first part of the Naruto series. After Sasuke gained the power of the Curse Mark from Orochimaru, he sought more power in an attempt to kill his brother, Itachi Uchiha.

Sasuke went with the Sound Five members and then the Konoha 11 members followed him. Eventually, Naruto fights Sasuke in an attempt to return to the village, but he fails.

Shortly after the two and a half year timeskip in Naruto, the Akatsuki began to make their move and their target was none other than the Jinchuuriki of the world. Gaara, being a tailed jinchuriki, was their first target. Deidara and Sasori attack the hidden sand village and kidnap her. Word was immediately sent to Konoha and Naruto's team immediately went on a rescue mission. While they tried their best, they were unable to save Gaara's life and he needed to be brought back to life later.

Naruto Uzumaki returned to his village after the timeskip, becoming incredibly powerful. Soon after, he started going on missions again and when he faced Orochimaru at the Tenchi Bridge, he had the chance to save Sasuke. Despite going into a frenzy and overwhelming Orochimaru, he couldn't defeat him to get Sasuke back with him.

In fact, Sasuke stopped him and showed a real difference in power between the two. Naruto was not able to take down Orochimaru or any of his minions.

Neji was a member of the Konoha 11 and a genius of the Hyuga clan. He was an incredibly powerful ninja who wielded the power of the Byakugan. Neji is considered a genius since birth. In fact, he had mastered many of the main family's techniques despite being a member of the branch.

In time, Neji became a jonin, however, he met his end during the Fourth Great Ninja War. The man who led him into battle could not save him from certain death. Neji's death was a reminder to Naruto that he couldn't protect everyone and that if he wasn't strong enough to protect them he would have to walk over the corpses of his own friends.

Naruto Uzumaki aimed to become Hokage of the village and surpass all who came before him. It is fair to say that by the end of the story, he had already accomplished it beautifully. Naruto was also the strongest shinobi in the world at this point, however, that didn't last long.

In the Boruto era, Naruto is barely able to fight the likes of Otsutsuki creatures. What's more, he loses Kurama's power and is even weaker than the other shinobi around him. Of course, Naruto failed to be at the peak of his abilities before he hit old age and this is definitely a failure on his part.
