What to expect from June State of the Game

Aerith looks up at the sky as her friends board the airship in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Image via Square Enix

I know I'm overhyping this presentation by adding a picture of Aerith Final fantasy 7 rebirth Here, however, Square Enix has a strong relationship with Sony's Gaming Showcase. In 2023, the actual release date for the second part of FF7 remake was revealed, so there's a chance we'll see something from the third installment in this hour-long showcase.

However, it's worth noting that Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest presentation on June 5 may also include a reveal for it. Anyway, it's about time we got a new look at Cloud and the gang, considering Part 2 came out two years ago. I mean, the director mentioned that he already beat part 3 to completion several times, so it must be close to completion, right?

One of the big games we know will be showing up at June 2nd State of Play is Insomniac's Wolverine the game It's out in mid-September (just three more months, yay!), and we've yet to see a full-blown gameplay demo for it. And speaking of other PlayStation dev teams, it's been four years God of War: Ragnarok came out What is Sony Santa Monica working on? is God of War 3? Is this a spin-off with Faye? Is it a kart racer? Just tell us what you're already doing!

And don't hold your breath, but Naughty Dog has been hard at work creating his new IP, Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet. We still haven't seen any gameplay for it, and it was revealed almost two years ago, so it might be time to finally show what the team has cooked up. Please don't give us another one the last of us Remake – we don't need any more.

For other games coming soon to PS5, here's what to expect!

  • Marvel Token: Fighting Souls (It's out in August, so a new character or two might add to the excitement!)
  • Phantom Blade Zero (It's out in September, and it's a wuxia action-RPG that looks incredible so far).
  • Horizon Hunter Gathering (The online Horizon spin-off has received mixed initial reactions, but showing what makes it unique may help its case).
  • Saros Just came out, but we might see a shadow-dropped update or even an extension.
  • A new title from Bend Studio, Team Asobi, or Media Molecule.
