- The NOEX format does not include 'ex' cards, fostering trust between players and refreshing gameplay.
- New formats such as ONES, TRINERGY, and 2TAGE have emerged, offering diverse play styles in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
For some, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's battle meta is getting a little stale. As confirmed by some pretty in-depth research, the format consists of Mewtwo ex, Pikachu ex, and a variety of Misty decks, often including Articuno ex and Starmie ex. Any attempt to deviate from this, bar a few exceptions, and you will probably lose.

Alternate Battle Formats of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket
With the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's meta nearly finalized, the NOEX format was born. Here, players could engage in private battles with decks containing any card that didn't have 'East' in the name, leaving the big hitters out to dry.
A level of trust was required, as there is nothing stopping players from bringing pre-war cards into battle, but aside from the odd troll, the format was a huge success and a breath of fresh air.
This new competition started as a variety of formats started cropping up on the Pokemon TCG Pocket subreddit.
As shared by user Honest_Sky_5375, players can now participate in the following formats:
- ONES – The deck cannot contain duplicate cards and must contain 20 uniquely named cards.
- ONESNOX – As above, except for pre cards
- trinity – The deck must generate three different energy types and contain one Pokemon of each energy
- BINERGY – As above, except with two energy types instead of three
- 1 Energy – As above, except with one energy type instead of two or three
- basic – Decks can only run basic Pokemon, excluding pre cards.
- 2 days – The deck can only run basic Pokemon without two-step evolution
After building your format-legal decks, these can be added to the game by selecting the Private Match option from the Battle tab and typing the code in bold above.
With such a taste for different battle types, it will be interesting to see if the Pokémon TCG Pocket team adds the ability to include custom rule sets in battles.
