Rayman 3 Remaster Reportedly In Development

Key takeaways

  • Nintendo is reportedly asking third-party developers to work on remasters for the original Switch while it's busy with the successor.

  • According to PH Brazil, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc is one of the games that Ubisoft is planning on remastering.

  • It may not be related to the recently rumored Rayman remake, but it looks like Ubisoft is finally focusing some attention on him.

Nintendo is reportedly asking third-party developers to work on remasters ahead of the Switch 2's release, which reportedly includes Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

As every Rayman fan is painfully aware, the past decade and a bit since Rayman Legends launched in 2013 has been incredibly dry. 2023 has made up for it with the infamous reimagining of the character in Captain Laserhawk and a starring role in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope's final DLC pack, but it's far from what we've all been asking for.

How Ubisoft Milan brought back Ramon for its first game in a decade

David Solani, creative director on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, talks to us about how Ubisoft Milan brought back limbless wonder.

It looks like a proper new Rayman game may finally be on the way, though. Yesterday, a report suggested that a Rayman remake was in the works, which was later confirmed with a statement from Ubisoft that Milan and Montpellier were in the early stages of the “exploration phase” of the Rayman brand. We still don't know what that means, but it looks like more Rayman is on the way.

A Rayman 3 Remaster is reportedly in the works

Funnily enough, Rayman isn't the only rumor that came out this week. As reported by My Nintendo News and RaymanForSmash sharedGaming Insider PH Brazil recently suggested that Nintendo is asking third-party developers to release remasters for the original Nintendo Switch while its first-party developers have their attention somehow still announced Switch 2.

So far, so normal. What makes things interesting is that PH Brazil mentioned some games that are currently being planned for Switch remasters, such as Splinter Cell Blacklist and Driver games. That list also mentions Rayman 3, which PH Brazil specifically says they're not sure if it's related to rumors that a Rayman remake is in development.

While remasters and remakes are very different things, Rayman 3 being specifically chosen is notable given that it already has an HD port for PS3 and Xbox 360, which certainly doesn't need much attention to work on the Switch. While this might just be that version of the game, the fact that Nintendo is asking developers to try it out for themselves suggests that it might be a bit more.

Rayman 3 used to be my favorite of the original Rayman games, but if it was remastered it would definitely need some work.

We'll have to wait and see what comes of the rumored Rayman 3 remaster, but if it's just Rayman 3 HD ported to the Switch, that would be great news since that game is currently locked to older generations. And will likely come to other consoles than the original Switch.
