As if there weren't enough things to be excited about in the world of video games, Jeff Fowler added to that hype by revealing that filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the next movie in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog series, has wrapped.
The director, who has handled three previous live-action movies, has revealed through social media that this movie is now in post-production.
That's not all, though, as Fowler decided to take a picture with Metal Sonic, the main antagonist of this adventure. As no doubt, it looks like Metal Sonic will have a rather successful transition to live-action, Amy, Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles and Tails.
“On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we've made the best Sonic movie yet and can't wait to share it,” Fowler wrote.
As it stands, none of the three previous Sonic the Hedgehog movies were critical darlings (47, 47, 56, respectively on Metacritic) but they have been beloved by fans and smash-hits at the box office. The most recent movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is the highest rated movie based on user scores, sitting at 8.4 out of 705 ratings.

Turn the tables in this classic video game romance.
If Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is truly “the best”, then it should beat that 8.4 score.
Unfortunately, it will be a while until we find out, as the movie won't be out until March 19, 2027, so less than a year from now.
It's another star-studded cast for Sonic The Hedgehog 4
Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Keanu Reeves (Shadow), Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colin O'Shaughnessy) will join Christine Bell as Amy. If the end of the last movie was any indication, Amy will have a bigger role.
Of course, this Dr. It wouldn't be a Sonic the Hedgehog movie without Jim Carrey as Robotnik, and although he's already talked about retiring, it looks like the comedy maestro will be returning to a very familiar role. There's always been an outtake in the movies in case he doesn't return, but as far as we know, he's back.
Finally, in news that should put a smile on the face of any Sonic fan, all three movies are in Letterboxd's top 5 of all-time video game movies. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was at No. 3, followed by the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie at No. 4 and then Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at No. 5.
In front of them? The Super Mario Bros. movie and, oddly enough, Detective Pikachu.
