Sony recently issued a statement on its current state PlayStation Plus subscriptions service, confirming that it plans to engage players by improving the service and funneling players towards higher subscriptions tiers. In the 2025 fiscal year, Sony boasted record profits for its gaming division, despite a decline in first-party PlayStation game sales. Part of the success of the company in the past fiscal year has been attributed to the growth of Sony's PlayStation Plus service.
PlayStation Plus offers subscribers access to PlayStation's online multiplayer services, as well as additional bonuses like a curated library of games, cloud storage, exclusive discounts, and more depending on the player's subscription tier. New PS Plus games are added every month, including a mix of modern and classic titles, but some games are only included for a limited time and are cycled out after a period of time on the service. PS Plus' monthly free games are included with the service at no additional cost as long as players claim them in time and remain subscribed to the service, whereas the Game Catalog available at higher tiers includes a selection of games that can be downloaded at any time.
Classics Catalog is a selection of retro PlayStation games available for subscribers to download at any time.

PS Plus is Losing At Least 6 Games in July 2025
Six titles are confirmed to be heading out of PlayStation Plus in July, including one of 2022's best action RPGs and a Final Fantasy game.
Sony Promises to Improve its PlayStation Plus Service in the Coming Year
Confirmed in Sony's latest financial report, the company plans to double-down on its PlayStation Plus offerings, aiming to grow the service by continuously improving its content to keep subscribers engaged. The statement reads:
“Sony is focused on driving profitable growth of PS Plus by increasing user engagement and continuously improving its service proposition and content, as well as inviting users to shift to higher tiers.”
Currently, PlayStation Plus offers three different subscription tiers, each offering a different level of content in addition to online multiplayer services. Pricing ranges from $10.99 per month to $19.99 per month, making PS Plus a solid value and enticing competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass.
Sony is currently in hot water with PlayStation Plus subscribers after it was announced that the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved PS5 release would require both players to have active subscriptions in order to play couch co-op. While online co-op games typically require both players to have a PS Plus subscription, players are taking issue with the fact that Halo: Campaign Evolved will force two splitscreen profiles to both be subscribed in order to play on the same PS5 console.
Despite this controversy, and the recent PlayStation Plus price hike, the service has still managed to draw in an increasing number of players each year. PlayStation reported 129 million monthly active users across PlayStation Network in Q3 2025, which puts this new push for more PS Plus subscribers into perspective from a market standpoint. As of 2024, 38% of PS Plus subscribers are part of the Extra or Premium tiers, which is up from 30% in 2022, showing a clear upward trend with a lot of space for growth.
June's PlayStation Plus free game lineup includes Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition, Nickelodeon: All-Star Brawl 2and Warhammer 40K: Darktide. These titles are available for all subscribers, but PS Plus Extra subscribers also have access to a handful of new additions to the Game Catalog, including, Black Desert, Blades of Fire, Farming Simulator 25, Final Fantasy 16, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Life is Strange: Double Exposureand Sonic X Shadow Generations.
