Leon Kennedy being a playable character in Resident Evil Requiem was the game's worst kept secret. However, as he is almost fifty years old in Requiem, there were fears that this would be his last play, retiring him from future work.
Now, a few months after Requiem's launch, it doesn't seem like Capcom has any plans to let Leon sit out future games, not least because of his age. Speaking to Eurogamer, game director Koshi Nakanishi says there are no plans to replace Leon with a younger face, and even brings up the possibility of him appearing in games at age 70.
Don't worry, Leon isn't too old for Resident Evil
“It's not a cast-iron rule that when we come up with a new game, and we decide to release it here, that we have to make everyone the exact age to match it or something like that,” Nakanishi tells Eurogamer. He adds that they have no plans to replace aging characters with younger ones: “We don't really think in those terms.”
Especially when it comes to Leon, it definitely feels like he has some fight in him. “I mean, I think Leon is really attractive in his current form,” says Nakanishi. “And who knows, we might bring him back when he's 70, and I'm sure he'll still be a great character.”
To say Lyon is “appealing” in his current form is an understatement. Fans went wild for this version of Leon, and if anything, probably wanted to see him age a little more. The story clearly isn't over with him either – for one, we need to settle the debate over who actually got married.
But of course, we must mention how the same grace is rarely extended to female characters. Fans were disappointed to see that Claire was only absent from Requiem, but Cherry was not mentioned even though she was in the same game. She makes a small cameo as a weapons assistant, but it's with her younger character model, which deprives us of a milf Claire to complement Dilph Leon.
Ada Wong was also notable for her absence, and we have yet to see the old Jill. In the latter case, they've already explained it with some anti-aging nonsense, but it's hard to buy when the male actors never seem to notice that problem, and we're still waiting for any of the women to look a bit older.
Fingers crossed, the continuation of Leon's story means that the female characters from his heyday will pop up, too, loudly. please
