Dragon Age: The Wellguard is out now, and after ten years of waiting, fans are wasting no time. Many are already binging through the story, and seeing some familiar faces along the way.
Spoilers for Dragon Age: The Wellguard ahead.Surprisingly, BioWare has brought back some old characters for Veilguard. It includes a couple of fan-favorite companions that were completely left out of the promotional material, making it a nice surprise for fans.
Fan-favorite companions return to Dragon Age: Vilguard
In the main story, Dragon Age: Vigilguard players will come across both Isabella and Dorian. They look a little different, given the ten-year time jump between Inquisition and Velgard, but we can see they're both still knocking.
In fact, if you choose the Lords of Fate background, Isabella will be your faction contact, so your rook will already know her before the story begins. Our favorite pirate queen has certainly been keeping herself busy between games.
Then, there are the returning characters that we already knew. Varric and Solas are the most obvious, as they appear from the beginning of the game. There's also the Inquisitor, who returning players can recreate to look like him from the last game and input some of his choices. And of course, as was revealed in one of the trailers, Morrigan is back, now with a slight change of wardrobe.
It's impressive that we have so many returning characters that we do, executing them in a way that respects the playthrough of our previous games would be very difficult. This is because, for the first time in the series, Veilguard does not import our entire world state, only asking for the three decisions made in the Inquisition. This means we can't say anything about our Wardens and Hawks, making it difficult to bring back characters who might have had very different fates.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out now, available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Dragon Age: The Velgard is the long-awaited fourth game in Bioware's fantasy RPG series formerly known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. A direct sequel to Inquisition, it focuses on Red Lyrium and Solas, the aforementioned dire wolf.
