Ultra Ego is the most powerful transformation Vegeta has ever undergone. Being a divine technique approved by the Gods of Destruction, it puts Vegeta in a special state similar to what Goku does when he goes into Ultra Instinct, but the effect this form has is the opposite. Although this situation is one that the Gods of Destruction are persistent due to their destructive nature, Vegeta needs a new transformation to house this destructive force.
Ultra Ego's main ability is the opposite of Ultra Instinct, where the latter requires the user to be incredibly calm so that the body reacts instinctively to attacks without the user wasting time thinking about dodging. However, Ultra Ego makes the user stronger with the extra damage they take, meaning their next attack will be more powerful than the previous one.
Damage is nothing but fuel for me. Do you know what that means? I'm only getting stronger!
As the name suggests, Vegeta is self-inflicted as he attacks, inviting damage so his next attack will be even stronger than before. Where Ultra Instinct is the best defense, Ultra Ego serves as the perfect offense. However, this is where the form's biggest flaw lies, as the user of this transformation can take more damage than they can deal with, leading to their defeat.
Right now, Ultra Ego is just as aggressively strong, if not stronger, than Ultra Instinct, but since Vegeta only used the form once without training, it's very undefined like Ultra Instinct Omen. One way that Ultra Ego can be overcome as Ultra Instinct is through training, Vegeta's body is extremely durable, just like Goku's body was in his Ultra Instinct form. This way, the damage he takes won't hurt him as long as he gains the benefits of the transformation, making his next attack even more powerful.
It was shown that, although the main power of this transformation is the ability to get stronger with every bit of damage, the amount of damage he takes can still be too much for him. It can black out Vegeta mid-fight, as seen against both Granolah and Gas. However, if his durability is increased to the point where regular attacks don't hurt him, Ultra Ego's potential goes through the roof!
Defects in terms of design
The Ultra Ego is a variant that has a slightly divisive design. While most fans of the series love the way Vegeta looks with his spikier hair, destructive aura, and overall wild appearance, there are some detractors who feel that the look of the transformation leaves a lot to be desired. Some fans of the series feel that Vegeta's long-awaited foray into the realm of divine techniques as the God of Destruction should have felt more royal.
For one thing, many feel that the form's missing eyebrows alone make Vegeta look weird. Although this was probably a deliberate choice as it portrays him as an extremely powerful and dangerous character with the ability to destroy entire planets, like all gods of destruction, some felt that he seemed too animalistic. Furthermore, many feel that the form would have looked much better if Vegeta had kept his signature black hair instead of turning it purple.
Weird face mode…?! It's called Ultra Ego, stupid!
Many fan art and theories point to Vegeta's desire to grow his hair as long as Super Saiyan 3 as a callback to a pattern that the prince never achieved. If there is indeed a Master Ultra Ego, the appearance of the transformation may be very different from what fans have seen so far, although they still have an amazing form that brings Vegeta back into the conversation of the strongest.
