What to expect from Honkai: Star Rail's Rappa

The Imaginary-Erudition Unit is a limited five-star unit exclusive to Rappa Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.6, and she still looks like one of the flashiest characters in the game. The 2.6 livestream and recent leaks gave players a look at his abilities, which featured a weakness-breaking playstyle similar to that of his fellow Galaxy Ranger, Bootheel. However, as an Erudition unit, his ability focuses on dealing damage to multiple targets as opposed to a single enemy. As such, it will be interesting to see how he fares HSR’s end game modes and how she will coordinate with current and future break-focused supports.

Rappa was officially announced on August 27, 2024 Honkai: Star RailExternal communication format on its social media and Reddit pages. From there, players learn that she is a Galaxy Ranger who defeats enemies using the art of “Cosmic Ninjutsu”. This shiny ninja probably came to Penaconi when Buthill sent out a distress signal to stop Sunday's sinister plans. According to the V2.6 Livestream, the next Trailblaze Continuance will focus on his encounter with a mysterious film director in a dreamland named Mr. Ray.

More details about the version 2.6 update for Honkai: Star Rail have been revealed, with HoYoverse teasing the return of some popular characters.

Honkai: Star Rail's Rappa Break is a pure fiction expert on the archetype

While Firefly and Buthill's Break-centric playstyles have dominated the Apocalyptic Shadow and Memory of Chaos game modes, they haven't excelled in multi-target-focused Pure Fiction. This is because Boothil is a Hunt unit that is comfortable in single-target situations. Firefly can deal massive blast damage to three enemies through his enhanced skill, but he can only do this during his extreme state. Rappa looks to fill a multi-target void in the break archetype with his skill and excellence.

The following capability details are based on pre-release information and leaks, so they are subject to change until Rappa is officially released.

  • Skills – Ninja Strike: Root Resolute: It deals a large percentage of fantasy damage to all enemies. According to a reliable leak from HomDGCat, this ability can deal up to 120% of Rappa's ATK at level 10.
  • Supreme – Nindo Supreme: Aishiteru: Rappa switches to her “Seal Farm” position, with a first-person perspective. She immediately gains a turn and an enhanced basic attack “Ningu: Demonbane Petalblade”. Its first two hits are phantom blast attacks and its last hit deals massive AOE damage. These attacks lower the enemy's toughness regardless of element, such as Feixiao's ultimate.

Rappa leans more into the break archetype with his talent and technique. The former is called “Ninja Tech: Endurance Gauge” and according to pre-release information, Rappa receives a charge every time his team breaks through an enemy's weakness. She can store up to 10 charges and each can reduce her toughness and improve break damage. Meanwhile, his technique, “Ninja Dash: Bypes and Bounds”, allows him to surf large shuriken, which improves his traversal speed in the overworld. When she attacks an enemy in this state, she will reduce toughness and damage them regardless of their element and she gains 10 energy.

How Rappa fits into current Super Break teams

The 2.6 livestream showcase features Rappa in a traditional break setup with Harmony Trailblazer, Ruan Mei and Lingsha. This could be the ideal comp for him, as the supports increase his braking effect and speed. Harmony Trailblazer's ultimate, in particular, lets Rappa deal massive Super Break damage when enemies are in a Weakness Break state. Meanwhile, Lingsa's Befog debuff can let Rappa deal more break damage to enemies.

Rappa wants to raise his peak as much as possible. This is because, according to what official sources have said so far, he has no way of implanting his elemental weaknesses like Firefly and Buthill. Therefore, the Sealform state is his only reliable way to effectively whittle down enemy toughness bars. Like Quid Pro Quo Light Con or the upcoming Sunday, whose skillset is rumored to have the Energy Overflow mechanic, she could enjoy having stability or support that can generate Ultimate Energy for her. Overall, Rappa is a good choice for players who are into pure fiction or want break DPS but missed out on Firefly and Buthill's banners.
