Amman: Jordan's anti-narcotics department has foiled two significant drug-trafficking gangs, seized 600,000 drug pills and arrested 12 suspects in a series of coordinated operations, news agency Petra reported.

According to a spokesman for the Directorate of Public Security, and authorities said the two smugglers were trying to transport 400,000 pills to Jordan, re-exporting them to the neighboring country. Both have been arrested.

In a separate incident, officers received information that a couple were planning to smuggle drugs by hiding them in a cargo vehicle. Extensive surveillance led to their capture in Zarqa Governorate, where 200,000 pills were found in hidden bins. The suspects were arrested as they approached the border in what was hailed as another major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.

The spokesman also said that the strategic crackdown in the central Badia region targeted high-profile suspects and drug networks. Supported by a special unit, and agents arrested four people, two of whom were classified as highly dangerous, and seized various drugs, including pills, hashish and cocaine.

In other operations, officers raided two adjacent houses in Balka Governorate, known as distribution centers for illegal drugs. Several suspects were arrested during the raid and 12,000 pills were recovered.

In Tafilah Governorate, a notorious drug dealer was arrested in a well-planned raid, which led to the seizure of 2,000 pills and six hashish tablets.

Similarly, in Mafraq Governorate and agents arrested another dealer after finding seven hashish tablets and a stash of narcotic pills.
