Yu-Gi-Oh's new chess-themed set, Chaos Rising, sees more expanded art card debut

The Yu-Gi-Oh Battles of Legends: Glorious Gallery has only just launched, and yet we're welcoming another new booster set of cards into the game. Chaos Origins is an homage to the anime and manga so many fans are familiar with and features an overall unique chess theme, so no main deck monsters are included in the set.

Well, Chaos Origins dropped today (July 2) and brought 100 new cards with five new expanded arts available in the Ultra Rare and Starlight Rare treatments. This booster set also reimagines some classic cards to make them viable in modern play, something that many long-running TCGs fail to do with older, popular cards.

This set will also see the debut of Starlight 2.0 cards, which include visual adjustments to the Starlight Rare treatment to make them easier to read while the cards themselves produce better colors. Gone are the old gray borders too, replaced by new rainbow foil borders.

Expanded arts are all the rage in Yu-Gi-Oh, so five more have just launched

Yu-Gi-Oh Chaos Rising Starlight Rare Extended Art.

Expanded Art cards are brand new to Yu-Gi-Oh, but Konami isn't making duelists wait too long for these popular new editions. In the Chaos Origins Booster Set, five new extended art cards have been launched; They are:

  • Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts
  • Sorcerer of Dark Chaos – Dark Chaos
  • Black Glow Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness
  • Fara the primordial goddess
  • A witness to the ancients

Each of these cards is available in Ultra Rare and Starlight Rare variants, and while early indicators suggest that while none of these cards will match the most expensive Glorious Gallery card, they will still be worth hundreds of dollars.

Sorcerer of Chaos and Black Luster Soldier are two cards that are receiving modernization within Chaos Origins. Sorcerer now prevents your opponent from destroying or casting your spells and traps, can grab spells from your graveyard when summoned, and can remove your opponent's cards each turn.

As for Black Luster Soldier, it cannot be destroyed in battle, banishes one of your opponent's cards when summoned, gains 1,500 attack points when it destroys an opponent's monster in battle, and can then attack again.

The most expensive YuGiOh card from the Battles of Legend Glorious Gallery.

Between cute new chibi cards and stunning expanded art, this new YGO set features some extremely valuable Starlight Rare cards.

Classic Yami Yugi monsters get updated cards

Fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, manga, and TCG will be familiar with cards like Summoned Skull, Celtic Guardian, and Kuriboh. Now, all three of these cards are getting a makeover with new mechanics and designs for each.

A Summoned Skull can now send a Ritual Spell from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard before adding the corresponding Ritual Monster to your hand.

Celtic Guardian can now draw you three cards before discarding two, and Kuriboh can still save your life points, but it now includes effect damage.

Those are just the headlines of the new Chaos Origins Booster Set, but the 100 additions have tons of updates and exciting new cards to check out. This release is really aimed at fans of the OG anime and manga series, but there's definitely something for everyone, including giant starlight rare chases.
