8 Breathing Styles Breathe in the closest power to the Sun

Demon Slayer Shōnen anime introduced fans to breathing styles, which Tanjiro Kamado and his allies use to slay monsters with their colorful Nichirin swords. While there are many different breathing styles, Surya Breath is the most powerful of them all. Created by the legendary Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Sun Breathing became the base from which all other styles were derived. Demon Slayer.

Water breathing is easier to learn than sun breathing

It's no secret that water breathing is the easiest breathing style to learn Demon Slayer. Even an inexperienced fighter like Tanjiro was capable of water breathing without formal long-term training, gradually mastering its basics and later developing its techniques through actual combat experience.

Still, water breathing is a top-tier breathing style ideal for survival against unpredictable monsters. It is one of the most effective in terms of both offense and defense, as the user can adapt well to different enemy styles. Like water, the user uses smooth, flowing movements to deflect incoming attacks, exploit openings, and redirect the opponent's momentum against them.

Derived from water breathing, Flower Breathing is one of the most beautiful and engaging breathing styles in the series. Despite its blinding effect, Flower Breathing is one of the deadliest breathing styles because it focuses on delivering unexpected, high-speed, lethal strikes to an opponent's vital points.

When Kanao used Flower Breathing against Doma in the Infinity Castle arc, she revealed a double-edged technique known as the Equinoctial Vermillion Eye, which pushed her vision to the limit, causing the world around her to appear to move in slow motion.

No flesh-eating ghost has survived Uzui Tenzen's Dual Cleaver while using Sound Breathing In. Demon Slayer. The likes of Guitaro and Daki also eventually battled in the Entertainment District arc against the sole user of Sound Breath, who turned sound-based perception and rhythm into a deadly combat advantage.

Musical score, Uzui's advanced sound breathing technique allows him to break down an opponent's movements into rhythmic patterns, enabling him to predict their actions with extreme accuracy once all conditions are met. In essence, Sound Breathing mimics the explosive power of sound, specifically its loudness, shock waves and rhythm, to disorient enemies and break their coordination in battle.

Visually, Flame Breathing is probably the closest to Sun Breathing due to their similar fiery aesthetics, aggressive aggressive style, and high-speed sword techniques that resemble burning speed and blazing heat. It is a top-level breathing style passed down in the Rengoku family, of which Kyozuro is the last known user.

Flame Breathing is also one of the flashiest breathing styles, and under Kyozuro Rengoku's mastery, he pushed Akaza to the brink of death in the Mugen Train arc, overwhelming him with relentless forward pressure and strong offensive output. If Rengoku had survived, he could have also awakened the mark due to his overall fighting ability with the Flame Breathing style.

Derived directly from Sun Breathing, Sanemi Shinazugawa's Wind Breathing style is known for highly aggressive and reckless attack patterns, defined by razor-sharp wind-cutting power, relentless offensive pressure and extreme speed. Instead of raising Sanemi's defenses, it forces them to constantly attack before the opponent can counter or react.

A single strike from Sanemi's Nichirin sword can hit multiple targets with a hurricane-like force of wind and tear through even the toughest defenses. Of course, getting hit means suffering devastating cuts that are difficult to heal.

In a failed attempt to learn Sun Breathing, Yorichi Sugikuni's student eventually developed Thunder Breathing due to his lack of the strength necessary to master the original breathing style. For years, there were only six forms of Thunder Breathing, until Genitsu Agatsuma developed a seventh form to fight Kaigaku on equal footing in the Infinity Castle arc.

Thunder Breathing is an easily recognizable breathing style, with lightning-like movements and strikes that give the user the appearance of blinding speed and near-instant speed. Thunder Breathing is difficult to resist, as only those with equally quick reflexes and superior perception can keep up with its sudden, high-impact forms.

Stone respiration draws power from the earth, not the sun

Facing a demon slayer using Stone Breathing is not for the faint of heart. Imagine a heavy hitter like Gyomei Himejima charging across the battlefield at full speed, swinging a giant flail and ax with immense force emanating from the ground and the earth itself, turning every encounter into a display of pure destructive power. It would truly be a nightmare to match Gyomei's power.

Stone Breathing users are often required to wield unconventional heavy weapons instead of standard Nichirin swords. During Gyomei Himejima's era, he developed five known techniques, each focused on providing extreme crushing power while maintaining impenetrable defensive capabilities.

While Moon Breathing is also derived from Yorichi Sugikuni's Sun Breath, it serves as its corrupted mirror. In other words, Moon Breathing is a twisted version of Sun Breathing but is widely considered the second strongest.

Instead of mimicking the sun, Moon Breathing allows its sole user, Kokushibo, formerly known as Michikatsu, to mimic the crescent moon with his techniques, moves, and attacks reflecting the flowing moonlight, often manifesting as crescent-shaped slashes with each strike.

Over the years, Kokushibo combined Moon Breathing with his Blood Demon Art, developing a total of 16 deadly techniques that no other demon slayer or swordsman could duplicate.
