Over the years, fans have seen many powerful characters Jujutsu Kaisen. In fact, when it comes to fight scenes, perhaps no modern shonen does it better Jujutsu KaisenGege Akutami gives us a fight to look forward to almost every chapter. In these amazing battles, these incredible characters are featured heavily, but sometimes, sometimes, the plot demands that they not return for one reason or another.
This is not an uncommon practice in the stories, and many times, it serves the story well, even if fans of these particular characters aren't too happy about it. Jujutsu Kaisen has terrorized many characters over the years in various ways.

My Janine
Mai Janine is Maki's sister, and at first, fans felt she didn't have much potential. However, seeing Yorozu use a similar technique to her, that is, construction, we knew that Mai actually had an incredible ability up her sleeve that she couldn't fully utilize.
Of course, Mai was not discouraged in the usual sense. Due to the fact that he was born with a twin, which is considered a curse, he could not use his full potential. In that sense, Mae was technically made bad by fate rather than by the author. However, the power was still his to learn. If the author had allowed her to hit her true level, she would definitely be one of the strongest magicians of the current era, and that goes without saying.

Yuta Okkotsu
Yuta Okkotsu is an incredibly powerful magician. In fact, he is a special grade mage, one of only four, and he is certainly very well up there. Despite everything, Utah has been undone on several occasions Jujutsu Kaisen. He has one of the most incredibly powerful abilities that fans have seen in the series, that is, copying. Unfortunately, he can only use copy for 5 minutes, which is a huge nerf.
Furthermore, when he expands his domain, called Authentic Mutual Love, Yuta, despite being able to deal lethal damage to his enemies, cannot choose the abilities he uses. On the plus side, he can use whatever abilities he picks up over and over again, as long as he keeps choosing them. Still, Yuta, a mage who is said to have the potential to reach Gozo's level one day, has apparently been nerfed to prevent him from becoming too strong.

Yuji Itadori
Yuji Itadori is the protagonist of the series, and while he doesn't have an obvious talent until much later in the story, we now know that he is actually someone with the ability to reach Sukuna's level. Yuji is actually quite strong, wielding soul-damaging punches, and should be strong enough to defeat most mages alone. In fact, even in the fight against Sukuna, his ability was greatly weakened.
Even though Yuji landed several Black Flashes on Sukuna, the latter's cursed energy levels, which should have obviously gone down, were maintained. This greatly reduced Yuji's ability to harm souls. If that wasn't enough, Yuji, who is also a user of blood manipulation, is revealed to not have full control over this ability. If he was allowed to use blood manipulation to the best of his abilities, the fight against Tsukuna would be much easier for him. Furthermore, Yuji, who also has access to the Shrine, was given a different version of this technique by the author. His ability wasn't nearly as dangerous as Tsukuna's in Shinjuku, which again felt like another nerf from the author.

Ryomen Sukuna
The King of Curses, Sukuna himself has not returned on several occasions. After the battle against Gozo, Tsukuna was discouraged in many ways. For one, he couldn't use the Reverse Cursed technique properly. At the same time, he was unable to expand his domain for a long time when other magicians were leading attacks against him. If Sukuna had been allowed to go all out, this battle would have been over in a matter of minutes.
Thankfully, much later, Sukuna's domain returned to him, and it allowed him to deal lethal damage to his enemies. Still, until the end, Tsukuna was far from her best and remained ill until death. If Gojo hadn't weakened him to Yuji, Tsukuna would have wiped him out in minutes.

Gozo Satoru
Even the strongest modern magician, Gojo Satoru, was absent from the story on several occasions. Most recently, Gozo was disappointed in his fight against Sukuna, where, despite being able to refill his Burning Curse technique repeatedly, Gozo was shown to have hit his limit for plot purposes. If that wasn't enough, Gozo couldn't even make perfect use of the Six Eyes, which should give him the ability to see cursed energy at its most internal level. He couldn't survive Sukuna's world-splitting meltdown, which even characters like Kashimo and Maki couldn't avoid.
He was unable to use the Reverse Cursed Technique after being hit by World Splitting Dismantle, despite regaining access to it. Of course, Gozo was seriously reluctant to allow the plot to progress in this war.
