All Choices And Outcomes In Chapter 1 Of The Life And Suffering Of Sir Brante

When you first create your future dignitary in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, you’ll need a name and the answers to a few important philosophical questions before you’re born into the world and given nearly free rein over how your life will shape up in the end.

The first chapter of The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is the Childhood section, covering from birth to adolescence, and while it’s one of the shorter ages in the game, there are plenty of formative things to learn early on to try and set yourself up for the best life.

We’ve done our best to limit them, but there are heavy spoilers ahead for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante.

Getting into a new save for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is easy enough from the main menu, but there are a few things you’ll need to select before you’re given the rundown of the game, like your name and a few gameplay settings.

After these are decided, you’ll be given a rundown of the game’s theme, told how your decisions will all weigh on one another and lead you down a path where your decisions matter in the end. There are a handful of different endings in The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, and which one you see on any given playthrough comes down to the choices you’ve made along the way.

Once you’ve been born, you’ll gain access to four menus along the left side of the book of your life. In order, these are:

  1. Destiny, where you’ll see the main story beats leading toward your character’s overall personhood in later chapters. There are four destiny beats in the first chapter of the game, which we’ll detail below.
  2. Personality to keep track of who your character is and who they’re becoming. You’ll see your Perception, Determination, and Willpower stats in this category, along with your age, estate, occupation, and the number of deaths you’ve experienced so far.
  3. House of Brante, which details the family’s current Reputation among the people, Wealth behind the name, and Unity of the Brante family. The decisions you make that impact these three stats will have an effect on everyone, and potentially their relationships with you.
  4. Family, providing a detailed look at the Brante family’s lineage. During your childhood, it’s only your immediate family – your parents, Robert and Lydia, and two siblings, Stephan and Gloria – along with your grandfather Robert, as well as Stephan’s birth mother and your father’s deceased wife, Amalia. Click on each portrait to see information about the character’s history and their relationship with your character.

Be sure to check these tabs often, since they inform who your character is becoming and who they’re bringing with them on the journey. More tabs unlock as you age, but a child doesn’t have to worry about those while they’re still new to the world.

You’ll play the bulk of The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante in this storybook style, with dialogue or questions on the left page and a mixture of photos, stats, or choices on the right. Every decision you make will result in a gain or loss in one or more of your stats. You might also find that you’re altering relationships early on through these choices, with relatives reacting to your choices and either gaining or losing relationship with you in the process.

Your Character’s Destiny

The very first tab of your storybook menu is the Destiny tab, and here, you’ll keep track of the events that shape your character’s destiny. There are a handful of them in each chapter, and your Childhood has four. We’ve detailed their unlock conditions and what might happen in the table below.
