EA Games is shutting down on April 28

Publisher Electronic Arts will discontinue online services for this Dragon Age: Explorationof the PS3 version on April 28, but anyone who still plays (or has played) on that console shouldn't necessarily worry too much. It has a huge impact Dragon Age: Exploration’s multiplayer component, though there are lingering questions surrounding Dragon Age Keep.

Publishers typically pull the plug on online services when the numbers don't add up, and EA is no stranger to the practice. As the number of players declines, servers have a harder time justifying additional maintenance, security, and even staffing costs. In some scenarios, aging technology and licenses can also be an obstacle. In fact, EA has already shut down the online services of five games this year – just like killing some games song.

What effect did Dragon Age: Inquisition PS3 shutdown have?

It doesn't seem like it would be that extreme Dragon Age: ExplorationHowever, once April 28 rolls around. First off, this is for multiplayer only Dragon Age: ExplorationWhich isn't bad by any means, but it's not the main reason anyone plays these beloved single-player titles. Second, this is only for the PS3 version, and has no effect on the PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox versions. The only thing that should be affected is the multiplayer servers for the PS3, which have been active for the past 12 years.

In theory, such shutdowns could affect Dragon Age Keep and the ability to import custom world states, but there has been no official statement from developer BioWare or EA. Fans may want some sort of backup or hint, but the game will remain playable for all intents and purposes. There aren't any multiplayer-exclusive PS3 trophies Dragon Age: Exploration Players on the platform should worry.

For those unfamiliar (or just don't remember), Dragon Age: ExplorationIn multiplayer, players take on the role of an Inquisition random agent – such as Isabella or Katari – in four-player co-op. Players will then fight various enemies such as Venatori, Red Templars, Darkspawn and other five zones, with the final zone featuring enemy commanders such as Calpurnia or Samson. It was a fun time, in all honesty, but it was never a main draw for the game.

Dragon Age: ExplorationThe PS3 multiplayer services may end on April 28, but the game will continue. The full story of Solas, as presented in this ResearchIt is largely resolved in its sequel, Dragon Age: Vilguard. Unfortunately, given the latter's long development cycle, massive layoffs at BioWare, and various other reasons, it's currently uncertain what the future holds for the franchise.
