Here's everything you need ahead of the Marvel Super Heroes prerelease weekend at MTG

Pre-release is one of the most important steps for any new Magic: The Gathering Set, because this is the first time you can use cards from a new set without needing any kind of special access.

It's a great experience event among friends or other players, although technically, there's no reason why you can't just buy a pre-release kit to kickstart your collection with a new set.

So, whether you're heading to your LGS, a private event, or buying a kit to enjoy the contents, here's everything you need to know about the Marvel Super Heroes pre-release.

What is a prerelease in MTG?

Pre-release refers to A seven-day period of time when the new Magic: The Gathering set is publicly playable for the first time. Not all products are available; Stores often only sell pre-release kits and host events. It depends a lot on your LGS and your relationship with them; Some may let you take pre-ordered products home at this time, but there are no guarantees.

If you're going to a pre-release event, you can expect to arrive and purchase a pre-release kit, which includes Six play booster packs, a foil promo (unstamped), and a set-themed d20. You are then expected to build a 40-card deck using cards from your Play Boosters. You will add separate lands to this deck, but you can choose specific lands from your packs if you wish. If you don't have any vacant land, you can request your LGS to provide some; They almost always have a little bit of space.

You will then play against other players in the event in a knockout style or round-robin format to determine the group of event winners.

How much does pre-release cost?

What do you need for a prerelease event?

Your LGS should have most of the items you need to get through the pre-release event, in case they don't, or if you're attending a private event, here are some items you'll want to make sure you have.

• A playmat
• Card sleeve
• Dice (normal and +/-, ideal)
• About ten basic lands of each suit
• Life trackers or companion app to use during matches

You can also take basic supplies like drinks and snacks, but again, check with the hosts beforehand to make sure you're OK with doing so.
