2026 is the 40th anniversary The Legend of Zelda franchise, and it's very likely that fans will find out how Nintendo plans to celebrate the occasion thanks to some big reveals lined up for June. The Legend of Zelda One of Nintendo's biggest franchises since the days of the NES, and so the 40th anniversary is unlikely to come and go without a big release.
At the time of this writing, Nintendo is keeping many of its future games under wraps. We know that Star Fox Coming to the Switch 2 at the end of June and Splatoon Raiders will be released in late July, but much of Nintendo's 2026 lineup remains a mystery. Speculation is that Nintendo will pull back the curtain on its second half 2026 Switch 2 plans in the near future, which is almost guaranteed to happen at some point during the Nintendo Direct June.

E3 may be dead, but it's still when many companies choose to host their biggest showcases that give fans updates on already announced games and reveal future projects to the world. Nintendo was a regular E3 attendee, but when it moved away, it continued to host large Nintendo Live events in June. Nintendo has yet to reveal its plans for this year, but reliable insider Jeff Grubb believes that Nintendo Direct is actually happening in June 2026, likely in the middle of the month. If so, that means the June 2026 Nintendo Direct will be a bit later than the other showcases lined up for next month, but for Zelda Fans, it will probably be worth the wait.

A new open world Zelda The game has also been leaked online, and with the project likely years away from release, perhaps fans will be teased at the show. A separate leak also claimed a smaller scale Zelda Game in the style of An echo of wisdom is also in development, and could even feature long-time villain Ganondorf as the main character instead of Link, which would be a surprising twist, to say the least. There are old ones too Zelda Games to consider. The fans have demanded it Pawan Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD The Wii U has been breaking out of jail for years, and the 40th anniversary seems like the perfect opportunity to do just that. Alternatively, perhaps Twilight Princess The Switch 2 will be added to the Nintendo Classics lineup.

A New Zelda-Like will be released in June
The Nintendo Direct in June 2026 is the main reason next month is going to be an exciting time. Zelda Fans, but this is not the only reason. On June 18, The Adventures of Eliot: The Millennium Tales Releasing for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. While not real Zelda game, The Adventures of Eliot Clearly inspired by Nintendo's franchise, the exploration and puzzle-solving elements are very reminiscent of Link's Quests. The game has drawn comparisons Link's AwakeningFeatures an angel friend, and includes time travel as a major plot device, so it should definitely scratch the surface. Zelda itching This may not be true ZeldaBut that should tide fans over as they wait for future games from the franchise.
